So on my way home today my wife calls and says did you debit 2 amounts of 54.82 and one for 49 .00 bucks today? I say no and call my CC company and see what the charges were for. So... they say Microsoft xb. Im like wtf? I don't even have a gold account as I don't really play games online anymore.

I dispute the charges and call microsoft. They tell me someone has downloaded 2 digital copies of DIRT 3 and some other game I've never heard of. So I have to lock my account and let them start their investigation. Not only am I out this money for the meanwhile (hopefully my cc company gives me my money back) they have locked my xbox console as a whole so my gt won't be compromised any more.

I CANT GET THE 1.3 UPDATE NOW!!!

MY GOD!

Is there any way I can get it otherwise???? :flamethrower:

I believe you can download the updates from other "places" and put it on a jump drive or something and place it on your 360 that way. I was under the impression people were doing this with 1.1 since they didn't want 1.2 anymore, and you cant grab just 1.1 off live, you have to take 1.2. I could be wrong though.

This is the kind of thing that happens when people have weak passwords and leave CC details linked to online game accounts. I personally never have any CC details on any game system, no matter who it is because there are thieving toe-rags everywhere and the internet makes it easier for them than ever.

When all is said and done OP, change your password and make it properly alpha numeric and random. Write it down somewhere close at hand for your console, the old advice about not writing passwords down is pointless as there is a disconnect between who actually wants your password and the type of people who COULD nick it from your home.

But lesson learned eh old chap?

So a 10 digit alpha numeric password isn't good enough?

I don't take blame for this crap. Eh?

Well obviously not if your account was compromised. Make it random, just throwing your DoB on the end of something wont help as its way to easy to find that out these days.

Things like;

f7aw6a9a0w8ddgnj48
dr6u4mxd123jlgv0hj9

That kind of randomness.

Did you find mysterious Fifa games appearing in your recently played list? I had a similar thing happen to me a while back and after going through the motions of cancelling the card and getting a new one, dealing with xbox and the investigation and all that, I found that there has been a string of these that are somehow associated with people playing fifa who hack people's accounts and then use their ms points to download random games and in-game points for fifa microtransactions.
The tell for me was that I turned on my xbox and had to recover my gamertag, even though I had never migrated it to another system. It made me suspicious and I started doing some digging.
Not as bad as the sony hack, but definitely a problem, and ms isn't really saying much about it.
Sorry to hear it, man, esp. the timing. Be careful trying to pick up the update from other sources- might be considered a violation of terms and since they're looking at your account right now you might not want to do anything sketchy.
The thing that ticked me off the most when I got hacked was the dumb games these people were downloading- slick enough to pull off a hack and then using my $ to play a bunch of sonic the hedgehog games and sidescrolling shooters...

Ever log into you account from a pc if so very likely you have a keylogger that gleamed your login info (and no copy+paste doesnt work as keyloggers today are perfectly able to read from the clipboard)

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me in August. Wasn't related to FIFA 12 at all, I wish the FIFA stuff would go away - its not happening to only FIFA Ultimate Team packs. I had $144 worth of XBL points/purchases made to my account. Went though the MS channels, they told me my account would be inactive for up to 25 days while it was being investigated. I decided right then to just make a new account and never associate a CC with it. Pain in the ass for sure. Lost all my friends, saves, DLC, and gamerscore.

Not sure why this is so widespread but Microsoft needs to go public and make some kind of comment. All they've said is LIVE has not been compromised in any way but thats BS. Just look at that link above, its obvious they have some kind of hole in their system.

Just makes me not want to go with MS on the next gen, with this and the failure rates (replaced two consoles myself).

A 10 digit alphanumeric password is most certainly not good enough. It's pretty much as weak as can be.
