Proof that Obisdian neglected the PS3 version

So obviously as an avid Fallout fan in general I've been trying to overlook the rampant and annoying issues present in the PS3 version of Fallout:New Vegas for the past few days (and I'm sure others who can actually get the game to play are trying the same as well) but earlier on while playing and experiencing near constant framerate issues (inside buildings and the god-awful wasteland stuttering, which I am personally sure is related to the textures popping in at low distances - my take on it anyway) but after playing for only 2 hours today I've actually had enough of this game. However, the most intruging piece of information that I came across today was a New Vegas comparison of all three consoles from Digital Foundry (which also did a Fallout 3 comparison).

Link is here - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-fallout-new-vegas-face-off

Now, while reading this I realised something which proves that Obisidian lied to all PS3 owners about how they were going to approach programming the game on the Playstation 3 (following how fallout 3 turned out on the console).

Rewind to when the game first went Gold, an interview with Josh Sawyer at GamesCom it was said that (when in reply to a question about lead platforms) that - (http://www.gamingunion.net/news/gamescom-fallout-new-vegas-interview--2720.html)

JS:"Like I said, I think for convenience the 360 was the lead platform. But obviously we've worked on the PC, we've worked on the PlayStation 3, we've always tried to keep those platforms in mind as well.

Now, while this doesn't exactly promise that the PS3 version of Fallout:New Vegas would be 'fine' or equal to the 360 version (or just playable in general) it does make the reader assume that they are taking the apparent steps to make what happened with Fallout 3, never happen again.

Now here's the kicker, refer back to the Digital Foundry article I linked earlier, inside it you will see that during the anolysis of the game, nothing has changed from how Fallout 3 played on the PS3 to what is now for New Vegas.

It's somewhat remarkable therefore that Fallout: New Vegas has seen no technological improvements over its predecessor whatsoever. It's the exact same engine seen in Fallout 3 and over and above the many reported bugs, it's a real shame that the game looks and feels so old.

And more importantly...

All three versions of Fallout: New Vegas are prone to slowdown and stuttering as background data is spooled in (even the PC game, running from an extremely swift Samsung F1 hard drive, is affected) but unfortunately it's the PS3 game that is most obviously impacted, sometimes with two or three second pauses where the action completely locks up as the engine seeks to spool in more data.

Basically this shows that they made no effort even whatsover to attempt to make the game better in anyway, so all we can actually hope for now is that they are hard at work on a patch which atleast remedies or somewhat nullifies the disastrious framerate this game currently runs at.

So Obsidian, are you doing anything about these framerate issues me and I'm sure the majority of players are experiencing, and even more importantly, why was it like this in the first place when you admitted to 'making the game equal' across the platforms?

P.S. - Could a Mod kindly sort out the typo in the title please, all this typing obviously left me a little worse for wear..

to be honest i dont know how much can be done with gamebroy engine anyways. new vegas was never meant to be an entirely new game from the ground up......just a reboot by a different developer. since gamebryo isnt optimized very well and ps3 technology is stone age at this point. outside of having super tiny draw distances and even lower res textures (although i dont know how much lower you can go) i dont see what really can be done. obsidian didnt make the engine so their knowledge of it is just enough to make a game.

its running just fine on my pc with the 4gb patch and a special DLL that i downloaded. silky smooth framerates with a hi res texture replacer and i increased the draw distance from 1000 to 1500. at this point its just the consoles lack of power that is an issue. for comparison there is a video on youtube comparing cryengine 2 with cryengine 3 coming out. they had to nerf alot of stuff to get it to work on the consoles.

Or maybe all that "special attention" was to purposely make it run like [censored].

Given how the final product turned out, I somewhat agree.
Let's just hope Obsidian/Bethesda see it as an issue (which IT IS) and decide to fix it.

Yes. And it's so bad that it freezes my game.

Every 10-15 minutes. The only way to fix this is to unplug the power supply to my PS3 and hope for the best, but then when I get back into the game it freezes again. It'll happen as I enter rooms or kill an enemy or just as I'm walking around.

And to think I was really looking forward to this game. The new patch they released made this problem 10 times worse.

Damn that svcks dude. My game is playable and freezes every so often (give or take one time a day  ) but it's the framerate that is the real issue for me.

I suggest that we try to keep this thread as high as we possibly can, as it is sure to be affecting a lot of people and the more we can keep it in the attention of Obsidian, the higher chance there is that they will fix it.
