The hardware troubles varies system by system. I usually go for the usual standard setup of a typical PC to avoid and exclude anything related to incompatibility-
-After owning several AMD CPUs, i go for Intel chip(I find it more stable and run cooler etc, I rather pay extra)
-Only use well known/brand name memory; hard drive; etc.
-Keep my system clean of junk and bloatware and anything that I don't use is either turned off or uninstalled.
-Keep windows updated
-Use certified drivers. I test beta sometimes, but I don't remember ever keeping any beta drivers or beta software too long.
-I go for the recommended settings and optimal performance.
So in general, I actually rarely crash in any game I play, unless of course I am doing some experimentation or possibly a well known/documented crash bug is present, and despite all the claims, there aren't many games, that crashes on "fresh out of the box".
Sure, there are problems in the game, regarding quests, textures, AI behavior, and performance that everybody is aware of, but claiming the game "unplayable" is far fetched and untrue.
