Returning to Skyrim after a hiatus, this time on a new rig w

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 12:10 am

Running at resolution of 2560x1600, and hoping to run at max settings. Also running and HD texture mod (forget its name and the name of the modder, but it's the primary one that's uploaded at Skyrim nexus)

Because I've been out of the loop for a good month or so,and because there's been a kind of push-me, pull-you where the community fixes something, then Bethesda's official patch addresses the same issue thus making certain community fixes unecessary (or even worse, incompatible)...In an effort to consolidate my questions into one thread, which hopefully helps out other folks returning after a hiatus who aren't sure what tweaks still apply

Note that this is an AMD GPU so some things might not apply to NVIDIA GPUs?

1) Is it necessary/advisable to install RadeonPro to manage a Skyrim setting, now that the newest Catalyst and CAP drivers are out?

2) Do official Bethesda patches make it no longer necessary to disable V-sync, mouse acceleration, and mouse smoothing?

3) What graphics settings (such as anti-aliasing and antiostropic filtering, etc) are best handled by Skyrim menu settings, what are best handled by Catalyst settings, and what are best handled by CAP or other applciation (like RadeonPro) settings? One reason I ask is b/c the ingame text looks slightly distorted for me- grainy and slightly blurry, and I wonder if it's due to forcing some AA or something from Catalyst, instead of checking the "Application controlled" box.

4) What community registry tweaks are no longer necessary due to official patches, and what registry tweaks still are?

5) Is it enough to use Nexus Mod Manager to handle mods, or is BOSS and Wrye Bash advisable like they were for Oblivion?

Whatever happened to just press/click Enter and play??.

Even though i have a mid range PC that plays Skyrim just fine on High settings @ 1920x1080, i still prefer to play it on my PS3.

I'll try to help a bit.

1.) I use nVidia. Sorry :(

2.) Most people, I'm guessing, still play with Skyrim's Mouse Acceleration off. The other two are up to you. Frame rate no longer effects mouse sensitivity.

3.) Again, not sure about Catalyst, but antisotropic filtering through drivers is better than Skyrim's, especially when it comes to rendering water.

4.) Not sure if this counts, but if you used 4GB or LAA patches, you no longer need them.

5.) I use NMM and BOSS. Probably up to you, but my setup works dandy.

Ok, so I wasn't much help. You may already know about this, but one of the best things to come out of the community, at least for a lot of people, is acceleration layers for the game. Look up SkyBoost and/or TESVAL. If they happen to work for you, they can loosen the CPU bottleneck of the game considerably.

Thanks. Yeah, I am using Skyboost. When I get home, I will list my active mods and tweaks.
No longer using 4GB or LAA b/c I know about the latest patch and how it support 4GB.
I am paritally wondering if I should even be using apps like RadeonPro. I don't wanna have a bunch of tweaks or 3rd-party apps running if they aren't neccessary.

Another querstion- I have Nexus Mod Manager installed, and notice that in the Skyrim launcher, the Data option is greyed out and inaccessible. Is this because I am using NMM to install files?
