CtD after HD DLC?

And that's not taking into account the addresses that other bits of hardware grab before Windows can use it. Basically, a 32 bit OS typically can make use of between 2 and 3 Gigs.

My brother got CTD's on his 32bit XP System with the Hi-Res pack.

I have a 32bit XP installed onto my system along with Windows 7 64bit. Imma gonna see if 32bit XP gives me CTD's in Skyrim with HD Pack. That would confirm if 32bit is the problem which it most likely will be.

It would certainly support the theory!

I can run each esp separately without any CTD's. That would also support the theory! :( Would be cool to make smaller esp files, (e.g. for indoor areas, cave etc..., outdoor area etc...)

Are you basically saying that on a 32 bit O/S if you have 3 gig of RAM and a 1 gig vid card you are using the 32 bit limit?

indeed.

even then with that setup... windows would show about 2.75gb of useable Ram.. 0.25gb of it will "vanish" or be "unuseable" by the normal operating system programs due to being used for other things...

Heres some basic math.. for those with any amount of ram installed while using windows 32bit be it xp/vista/7/8

32 Limit - Vram - 0.25gb reserved = Total Ram useable.

4gb - 1gb video card - 0.25gb = 2.75gb of useable ram

4gb - 1gb video card - 1gb video card (sli/crossfire) - 0.25gb = 1.75gb Ram (Problematic, making the machine below minimum requirements for most modern games)

4gb - 3gb video card - 0.25gb = 0.75gb of ram <~ TOTAL FAILURE ALA Counter Productive Means

4gb - 2gb video card - 2gb video card (sli/crossfire) - 0.25gb = -0.25gb <~ Windows LOLs at you and BSODs before being able to start.

Just tested on my Windows XP 32-bit install, same settings and drivers as on my Win 7 64 install.

Got blown out (CTD) without any errors messages twice during the loading screen and while wondering the lands.

On Windows 7 64-bit

Not a single issue on Win 7 64 and I've logged 100+ Hours.

I think the problem here is 32-bit, 64-bit is a MUST if running this pack. After all Beth did recommend 4GB RAM which is only possible on a 64-bit OS.

I think that clears that.

yup you ran essentially the same tests i have....

I've been saying the same thing over and over and yet most tend to not believe what I've stated.

I don't run my own computer store without having at least a few machines with different hardware and software configurations to toy around with just for fun.... with multiple different OS installation to confirm theories or ideas or trouble shoot something be it old or new.... wouldn't believe how many people come in with DOS related issues that weren't even support on windows 95 let alone modern OSes...

Good to know. The DLC should have recommended specs that basically say 64-bit is a min requirement, otherwise no promises against CTDs.

@DHJudas

This...

64bit is a must if people who are gonna run this pack, doesn't get any simpilar (Did I spell that right? lol)

Anyway true, Beth should of listed 64bit as a requirement but recommending 4GB RAM is enough to get people upgraded I guess.

you'd be surprised how many people will jam 4gb into their computer yet are unware they are still only able to use 1.75gb of it due to using either 2 1gb video cards or a single 2gb video card and think "I HAVE WHAT THEY ASKED FOR AND IT'S STILL NOT WORKING" using a 32bit OS..

*sigh*...

this is why i insisted that Microsoft was being utterly stupid with launching a 32bit verison of vista and then 32bit 7.... worse yet is they plan on a 32bit version of windows 8....wtf

These kinds of problems are only going to get worse in the future.. and the moment a new console launches ........ it better the hell be 64bit native... or we are all in deep -_-

@DHJudas, 32bit is most likely for legacy users at best, but even that will probably change soon... look at Apple, OS X Lion 32-bit doesn't exist.

Infact the Xbox 360's CPU has 128 Bit registers (Or a part of it does), which probably makes it 128-bit or it's 64-bit with extended registers. Confusing but it's not 32-bit

no the xbox360 uses 32bit OS essentially.. while the cpu and various others have high bits... just like my video card has a 512bit ring bus in one of my computers.. doesn't necessarily mean the opperating system controlling the devices are 32bit.

look at GDDR5 memory interfaces used.. slower ones use 128bit other use 256bit.

The xbox was a modified windows 2000 32bit system... the 360 is apparently a hybrid windows 2003/MCE2005 32bit system... still highly debated but it's most definitely 32bit.. They have no reason to use anything higher than 32bit..

and if they keep the specs system they have for the newer box.... they wouldn't necessarily require 64bit... but they would be starting to cut it very very close to the limits.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were stupid enough to go 32bit again at the end of 2012..... a full decade since the original release of a 64bit windows XP OS was launched and rapid adoption started to take. i think it will be 15+ years since the introduction of linux 64 bit lol.

Pathetic how manufacturers are dictating what users "should need".... i got flack from numerous people about how installing 64bit (back in 2005) on my customers computers was a total waste and no need for it..... luckily for them today, they are able to run everything fine due to widespread support for it now and the fact that all 4gb or more of ram is fully useable 7 years later.
