Lots of purple after patch 1.4

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 1:24 pm

Hello, guys, I need some help here.

After the install of patch 1.4 I′m having... well.. LOTS of purple textures. Terrain, tables, some clothes, grindstone, chairs, rocks... Anyone can give me some help?

Obs:
1) I don′t have the high resolution texture pack
2) I really have some mods (61)

Try disabling your mods.

Oh, I found whats going on. Some files, such as blacksmithsharpeningwheel01.dds, were showing 0Kb. So I searched and found that this file was part of the mod "Skyrim HD - 2K Textures". So I downloaded again. And it worked.

Ty guys.

FFS!
(sorry, OP, this is not aimed at you)
It really upsets me that Bethseda are blamed for every fault; even when they fix things, people will complain that a) it should have been fixed at release, or B) the fix has broken a mod.
I know that no-one reads the EULA but it always states that you buy the rights to use software "as is"; the developers are under no legal obligation to fix, patch or improve anything. And yet, patch 1.4 for Skyrim totally fixed the game for me and many other people.
"It shouldn't have needed fixing!", I hear people shout. Ideally, yes, but the 11/11/11 release date couldn't really be deferred, given how ingrained it was in all of the advertising campaign. Which I suppose led to the short-term testing that failed to reveal the "save file bloat" issue. A fatal flaw, to be sure. Totally broke my game. But 1.4 totally fixed it!

As for the recently released high-res texture pack, if anyone prefers other 3rd party texture mods - or if it simply causes problems - it can be disabled. Easily. I would say that an option to ubinstall it would be nice, if only to free up 3 GB of HD space, but the overwhelming indication so far - concerning the texture pack causing performance issues - is that a higher-specification PC is required to run the game with it. Go figure.

Finally, for all those with the "Mods are Gods; Devs are Devils" attitude, I hope that people will consider that, without the devs, there wouldn't be a Skyrim to mod!

It's a great game! I hope that the devs AND the community make it even greater. :)

Hey, JMC002, I dont get it. What the hell are you talking about?

I had a problem, I needed some help, post here and some time later I found a solution. Not blaming anyone here, just asking for help. So... what you mean?

He's just ranting. But it could have been posted in it's own topic.

@TT1: He is referring to the fact that every day useless topics like this are created and fill uselessly the forum, where users come to claim that the game is broken/crashes/etc, that the the latest official patch has broken the game, etc when they have their game heavily modded and/or tweaked and sometimes protest that it is Bethesda's fault...

In most cases, they follow in ignorance some advices to mod and tweak Skyrim, and all they have to do is to disable the mods and tweaks they're using.
If vanilla aka original Skyrim runs, it is not Bethesda's fault, that is why you have to mod and tweak Skyrim at your own risk. After that, if it doesn't work, don't complain.

To those users: read the stickies and search before creating useless topics.

In a way, this topic happens to be useless too, because the OT after a while figured the problem himself - if he had looked on better to the problem before posting, wouldn't have the need to post.

Just my 2 cents, no offending intended ;)

We wouldn't miss Skyrim either if the devs never created it, thus never have this discussion. Kinda a weak arugment imo, but then I would just hear the typical nonsensical words from the bandwagoners. "What wrong bro" new to pc gaming", etc..etc..

I was going to write a entire page in response to the "Mods are Gods, Devs are Devil", but you are right. It belongs in it's own thread.topic.

By the way, without the community here, there wouldn't be a Skyrim, in fact Skyrim would still be stuck in it's day one state if it wasn't for the community. FYI look at the recent patches from Bethesda. Those are duplicates of what has already been fixed by the community weeks before Bethesda grew a brain on the issues. How long will they avoid the Esbern quest fix? Are they really atuned the community like people think they are? Lets just focus on those "rare occasions". This is clearly not a minority.

let me add this so I can cowardly exit without getting a bashing .. you couldn't possiably think that you wouldn't step on peoples toes in this thumb svcking society today did you?

/rant. :shakehead:

imo, the community is far too lenient with Bethesda. What happened to installing a game and it working. I blame the lazyness of technology.
