help! steam ate my save games!

Verifying the files re-added skyrim.esm and update.esm. Why would doing it again take care of the issue I'm having with my installed mods not showing up as installed?

I'll try it, but I have a feeling that it won't be much different than someone bashing his/her head against a wall and expecting different results.

I think the best answer I can give is that I'm having trouble following you here. Sorry, I'm doing my best though. :)

1. update.esm and skyrim.esm files disappeared sometime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
2. after checking data file and finding that those two files were indeed now missing, however all the installed mods were still there, I validated the files through steam.
3. after completing step 2, which re-added those two missing files and even though those mods show up in the data folder, they do not show up in the launcher as being installed and the same is true when I try with NMM.
4. I would really like to get access to all those mods without having to un-install and then re-installing each one individually.
5. I am reasonably sure this was not caused by NMM, I am also reasonably sure this was caused by Steam.

To be honest, It sounds like an NMM issue to me. Sounds like something in how it keeps track of which mods were active or something.

However, due to hard time I'm having understanding the posts here someone else may be of more help.

At least I tried. ^^

If it were caused by NMM, they would show up as installed through Steam's Skyrim launcher. Besides, NMM does not cause the skyrim.esm and update.esm files to go awol. Steam however has a track record of doing just that when the automatic updates fail.

Thank you for trying.

When you sync with the Steam cloud, it will add save games back to the directory if you deleted them manually, but it doesn't delete saves.

Unless you are using your Steam library games on multiple computers, I don't see any benefit from using Steam cloud sync. It only makes it more complicated to delete old saves manually when you want to free up space.

I'm not missing save games though. My mods are just not showing up as being installed even though they are in my data folder. There are no mods listed when I check through the skyrim launcher.

The disappearance of the skyrim.esm and update.esm files is a Steam/Beth issue.

The disconnect of the mods is an NMM issue. I have reported this on NMM's tracker. Not sure how/where to report the Steam/Beth issue.
