No More NVIDIA Ambient Occlusion?

Just checked it in nvidia inspector and it is.

Have you tried the new beta drivers?
Yes, ive already tried the new beta 301.24. SSAO still works indoors only, but it still has performance hit outdoors. All the same as for 296.10, unfortunately. (im talking about 0x00000029 (Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim), because fallout3 works well, but has different quality)
Since ive found that iBlurDeferredShadowMask has affect SSAO, i assumed that Skyrim's *.ini could help, but they are not.

@ Sumrs,

Interesting, I never knew/tried that, it works for me to some degree but the SSAO still flickers in outdoor environments unfortunately :(
As we all know, SSAO's flickering is normal thing, and decreases by higher quality. I cant see flickering with "Quality" SSAO (almost).
Did your flickering differs from "normal" ssao flickering?
Ive noticed some really buggy flickering with Fallout 3 compatibility, when massive shading areas of the house blinking all the time while i was at a distance (it was with quality ssao mode).

Hopefully the beta won't last too long. Have you used something like Driver Sweeper to erase old dll's and registry entries from previous drivers?

I had the green skyrim startup logo months ago, and after cleaning out leftovers from old drivers, I've had no issues.

That's so strange. I have the same card and the new beta drivers did fix AO on my system. If it makes a difference, I do set AO to high quality with nvidia inspector.

They are beta, so it would seem nvidia is working on fixing it for everyone.

Just to be clear, 1.5 added shadows casting ON grass, not new shadows cast BY grass. I haven't tried the latest nvidia beta drivers, but aside from AO the game runs well, so I'm hesitant to possibly ruin a good thing. My indoor AO that does work is kind of buggy though, sometimes when moving it will blink off and on, dependent on the view position, apparently.

For now, I have turned off AO, until it is fixed.

Sorry mate I didn't specify exactly by what I meant when I said flickering. When I said flickering I can literately see the SSAO effect flicker on and off when you turn with the mouse or walk around, not the flicker/shimmer effect of the SSAO (Skyrim profile) that you can notice quite easily on shrubbery and distant lanscape.

On the other hand I haven't had a problem with the Fallout3 profile, but its not the same quality from what I can remember compared to the Skyrim profile.

No, and i think i wont. Because Nvidia's manual says that you dont need to uninstall old driver before install the new one.

Despite what Nvidia says, there are times when it IS necessary to uninstall old drivers and do a clean install of new drivers. If you experience problems, what have you got to lose by trying?
