Best Armor for an Archer?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:04 pm

Ehh. I want armor, not a bikini.

Well... the Dark Brotherhood armor looks like it might actually protect you, but is skintight... I dunno what to say, really. I think Glass is way better looking than either Dragonscale or Dragonbone. I don't know why everyone loves Daedric so much, it doesn't look that great to me (maybe if it came in another color? Ebony is already black).

Yep. Me too. WITH PANTS DAMN IT. /grumble

If it's any consolation, watching the man play on his male toons, their leather armor is all skirts too. I point this out and he's all "It's a kilt, dammit! A MANLY skirt!"

I like Daedric but for my current Breton I'm sticking to Ebony just cause I like the more realistic feel.

I think Glass looks okay until you get to the helm, at which point I just don't want to wear the armor at all. Elven is just ugly.

Does the DB armor have decent armor rating? Cause I haven't seen it in game, only pictures so far. But I've heard there's an unenchanted version so if it's good protection I'll go for it.

Just need to find some boots with a muffle enchantment so I can learn the enchantment. >.<

Heh. That would be fine for a male toon considering I have a fairly deep Scots ancestry - but I don't play male toons. Ever. I'm female. I have never once in all my 64 years EVER wanted to pretend to be male. Eww.

Have you looked at scaled armor? This is a stock light armor that I quite like the looks of, just not the helmet... the helmet is fugly.

Almost all the helmets in the game are fugly, though. Ebony is the only one that I think actually looks cool.

DB armor seems to be roughly equivalent to Leather, same as the TG armor (I just looked in-game; I've improved both sets but they're about the same).

It still has "skirts" that stick out funny - and no pants under. Yeah, all the helms svck. I use circlets, and bag the pluses for "all light armor". A modder will eventually fix it.

No thanks, Scaled doesn't look pretty lol.

And I guess I'll do the DB questline for the first time now to get the gear lol, I was hoping to make my gear and THEN do the quest line. 15 Archery, 100 Sneak here we go. =X

I play a lot of JRPGs where you have no choice in the matter, so playing male toons doesn't disconcert me that much, but it's not something I do if I have any choice in the matter. I rather like being female. :)

I thought I saw somebody mention something about a mod that makes the lack of helm not count against you for the armor bonus, but they didn't mention what it was called and I wasn't able to find it (though I admit I didn't look very hard).

If a game requires me to be a male toon, I simply won't play it. I have other things to play.... WoW, all the TES games.... etc. And actually, there is a mod for that - not to mention a mod for making some circlets "work" as light armor helm (I tried that one, but it's buggy - I think it needs the CK....)

The JewelCraft mod adds an "Elven circlet" and a "Steel circlet" that have armor values, but I'm not crazy about their appearances. Hopefully the mod author will add more options soon.

What I really want, is cowls with armor ratings. All my stealthy characters in Oblivion wore hoods/cowls.

This would be awesome! That's a common look for my toons in MMOs (well, the ones where you have sufficient control over armor appearance): plate or chain armor with a cowl/hood. It looks really good.

I actually never use helms if there's no way to "invisible" them (like there is in WoW thankfully). I've never seen a helm in any game that was "un-ugly" enough for me to consider using it, I don't CARE what uber-stuffs it has.

There was a VERY cool circlet mod in Oblivion. Hope something similar shows up when the CK lands.

The only one I know if is a the http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=562. It removes all helmets from everyone, NPCs and PC. That is, it makes them invisible so you can get any stat bonuses from a helmet without appearing to wear one.

Oh, yep. That one's a tad bit buggy as well.... tried it, some guards lost their heads! Pretty funny really!

I thought about installing that, but then decided I actually prefer to see if my enemies are wearing a helmet or not, even if I don't want to see mine. I ended up either putting on a circlet, or on some characters I just favorite the helmet and remove it in town (feels more realistic that way).

I also don't use that mod. If it had a toggle, I would.

Went off and got Ebony Mail for the hell of it. I'm a completionist anyway. It doesn't distract me too much, so I'm going to boost my heavy armor up a bit and try it out.

QFT. I'm not into bikini armor. Not even the chix-in-chainmail sort.
