This game was in production at the same time as borderlands.

I hate it when people say that this game is stealing the artwork and ideas from borderlands, because to me it shows complete ignorance and lack of interest in the games that they are talking about. Borderlands doesn't even take place on the planet earth! . Basically the only similarity between these two titles is the fact that they have vehicles, and don't tell me that they both take place in a post apocalyptic environment because they don't. Borderlands takes place on a planet that has been scrapped and cleaned out and left for civilians to survive as best as they can. They were in production at the same time, so there is no way that the developers of Rage could have taken ideas from borderlands.

while i do agree that they did not copy from eachother due to overlapping developments, i must admit that since the look to take place in the same kind of environment they DO look alike. call it earth or call it pandora - if it looks the same than no one cares who u call it. the towns look alot alike. the vehicles kinda look alike, the mutants and bandits kinda look alike, the fact it is open world kinda look alike. lets face it - they have a lot in common. on the other hand, fallout 3, which DOES take place on earth in a post apocalyptic reality, doesnt look alike.

Not necessarily. I didn't know that and even if I did make such a rash judgement, it might not be because I dson't have interrest. I'm just trying to pretect the dignity of Bordelands (hypothetically of course). I wouldn't be suprised if they did find out about a few Borderland betas and then made their own graphisc based off of it. After all that's what this industry about. Taking parts of games and then adding your own flavor to it and all that.

I seriously doubt that Rage is the result of any sort of copying of or riding the coat-tails of Fallout 3, much less Borderlands (I personally got bored of Borderlands pretty quickly). iD has more developer "geek cred" than the vast majority of other developers (BGS included). They pretty much invented the modern incarnation of the first-person shooter. While all three games share a post-apoc setting (a setting which none of these games invented...they're all guilty of borrowing the setting and visual themes from elsewhere), I don't think it makes a lot of sense to think any thematic overlap is anything but coincidence. I was seeing concept art for Rage around the same time concept art for Fallout 3 was being released. Unless iD has a time machine...

As someone who has played the hell out of Borderlands, the two games actually look nothing alike.

The difference is the FEELING of the game. Borderlands' hellish Pandora is a cynical place of constant death and destruction that constantly makes fun of itself ("EXTENDS!"). RAGE is much more serious, and somewhat hopeful even. Take for instance the town we see in the videos. Its thriving and has a person talking about urging folks to make it a better place. Its more serious and more realistic. Borderlands was cynical, funny, and didn't take itself seriously. Campy, if you will.

They are both wastelands, but they are not the same kind of wasteland. If that makes any sort of sense.

Edit: Also recall that Pandora in Borderlands isn't even post apocalyptic or anything. Its simply a world svcked dry by corporations, then abandoned, the people living on it forced to survive on what little they can find.

Nukes blew up RAGE's world...or something like that.

Honestly, having played Borderlands and then watching gameplay videos of RAGE. They are kind of similar, both have that linear feel. They may have been in production at the same time but they didn't release anywhere near the same time. I hope I'm wrong about them being similar, I really do. Borderlands was fun for a couple hours but the repetitive gameplay really killed it for me. Shoot this, go here, shoot some more, collect guns, repeat. Hopefully RAGE will be more story driven. I like the fact that each faction in RAGE behaves differently that mix up combat nicely.

The sort of art style goes way back past either Rage or Borderlands - although I can certainly see why people might compare the two.

You might point to Fallout or pick your post-apocalyptia, but ultimately I'm still half-expecting Tina Turner to come marching out and inviting people into the Thunderdome.

lol, yeah. I would like to see post-apocalyptic games make their own lore and world. Instead of feeding off of movies like Mad Max. There's a lot of scenarios that could be explored. And I think the post-apocalyptic setting is perfect for Western RPG's it gives a modern/futuristic time period to play around with...one that's more familiar to players than that of ES. And it really shows humanity at it's most primal state. It really allows for some good stories of humanity reborn or humanity destroyed. It can go either way.

I didn't care much for it either. It was fun until you beat it and then you were wondering what am I going to play now? I like the world they created but overall it just wasn't what Gearbox said it would be.

I just think the main similarity seems to be the A in the game's title of RAGE. Doesn't it seem awfully similar to Borderlands' symbol?
I mean, look. It's a circle, similar colour, similar font, with a V in it, JUST like the one in Borderlands. The only difference it seems to have is that there is a stroke across to make it an A.

I'm surprised no one else has noticed it, or atleast said anything about it. Then again, maybe it's just me.

You are looking way to much into this...lol. Uhh they look nothign alike. I'm sure the "A" in Rage is most likely a double entendre; Looks like the symbol for "Anarchy" but most likely stands for "The Authority"....

Umm, I didn't look into it at all...lol. I just saw it and immediately thought "That looks like the Borderlands' symbol.". And then I saw this topic by coincidence and thought I may aswell add my bit.
I just looked at the Borderlands symbol then, and it doesn't look THAT similar, but you have to admit there are some similarities.
Especially when I hadn't seen the Borderlands logo in like nearly two months.
