It makes no sense at all. It should have had massive consequences, but instead it changes nothing. Huge letdown.

Great job, Beth! Keep up the awesome job! :vaultboy:
it really shouldnt have massive consequences who cares if the emperor dies they will just elect a new one and the empire doesnt even have that much influence in Skyrim any more, its not like in Oblivion where you need the emperor to stop the Oblivion crisis

You can always pretend that news don't spread in a pseudo-medieval land as well as in modern society and the Empire has every interest in keeping the news quiet.

"The http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Emperor_Titus_Mede_II. Dead. These are dark times my friend - dark times indeed..."

Even more hilarious when it's said by Stormcloak guards.

You can kill hundreeds of dragons and reunite the empire. You will still go to jail for stealing a potato.

SO REAL.
You can take all of the farmers crops without any problems and it isn't considered stealing.

If it went for realism I am pretty sure you would be working a monotonous job such as a blacksmith or alchemist. When you burn someone it leaves burn marks that need to be attended to at the hospital. The game is still fun for me

there's a difference between realism and good story-telling.

Actually no. You can have realism and great story telling. Get a few books on real life stories and be amazed.

Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion had the same issue, very little changes, end of main quest in Morrowind: weather change over the volcano and you got an title.
Oblivion the temple changes and you got an armor.

Daggerfall had six or something endings, an menu and only difference was reward and reputation.

Fallout 3 had different endings, after the game was over you was shown different videos depending on your actions.
It was remarkable popular.

You don't elect an emperor. The first Titus Mede became emperor by marching into the Imperial city with his army and calling himself emperor.

Exactly!

"http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc488/wizard_of_wor/381955bf.jpg came to inspect the bridge construction, and he saw that the construction had stalled. But when the builders saw his greaness and example in Self Reliance, they were lifted on a wave of hope, and they went to work with renewed strength. The bridge was constructed by our great workers in less than a week, thanks to the leadership of our great leader Aldrath Fyr!"

Yeah. I did that quest, guards saw me. I escaped Solitude then strolled right back in and handed them 1,500 gold for my fine and all was dandy.

Seriously?

Actually, that might make sense. 1,500 to bribe a guy for not recognizing you is a hefty chunk of change, especially since no one liked Titus Mede.

But yes, the Emperor dying is probably something that WILL cause momentous change.

Eventually.

Unless Cyrodill is like Rome during the Bad Emperors, then it's like a weekly event.

Ideally the murder of the Emperor should be a 'make sure no witnesses live or fail' type of quest, maybe even with a game over of some sort if you escape the ship and someone saw you.

Exactly. Few people seem to grasp what the word "Empire" means. It has a specific meaning. Not just cool uniforms and being "kinda like those Romans".

Well it depends what sort of Empire it is. What people don't realize is that there's been non-monarchial Empires throughout history, often with multiple candidates and people selected by some body or another.

In Hamlet, Hamlet isn't King because the Danish whatchamacallit selected his Uncle instead.

Denmark of the time wasn't an Empire of any kind though. And attention to historical detail wasn't the strong point of Shakespeare's writing from what I've heard anyway. Empires throughout history have tended to have their leadership chosen by birth or by coup.

Everything that affects the game doesn't turn out well. Trust me. I know they thought of it through.

Yeah sure like they did in Arena where you could start a war between kingdooms and see armies marching.

Skyrim is lagging light years behind daggerfall and arena in concepts.
