But IIRC the mage took some special measures to be able to trap himself inside like that... fully aware. I don't think it works the same for common soul trap spell.

Then we could arrange for an arena where you could empty the soul gems to have the spectral forms of the creature you caught battle other creatures!
They could level up as well, and learn better abilities as they win fights.
Oh, and there could be extra hard-to-find enemies that are sparkling (like the Nirnroot effect) and that could have a different color scheme and perhaps a special move!

But sure, a nice effect would be a projected image of the one you captured when activating a soul gem placed in one of these racks. Though I'm not sure that'd be very correct lore-wise, since it's a creature's soul energy that's being trapped, not really the entire creature.
