More people are pc gaming than they were 10 years ago.

If by "PC gaming" you mean "Playing Angry Birds on your smartphone" or "taking care of your farm on Facebook" then sure.

So, how long before the government decides to levy additional taxes against digital crack like Skyrim?

Ha, that too. WoW itself makes up for what, 14 million "PC gamers"?

PC sales will continue to increase. Households that originally did not own a PC do so now due to the popularity of the internet.

Laptop prices have gone way down as well and are much more affordable

The thing I hate about steam is it's become a monopoly to play certain games.

If I can't go buy a game, hard copy, and go home and play it. Grrrr...

Why the " " around PC gamers?

The PC is a huge gaming market. Plus there are still some genres that are probably best represented and presented on the PC such as:

Computer strategy game (eg the Total War series, Hearts of Iron etc)
Turn based strategy (eg Civ)
Simulators (which go beyond the Sims. Sid Meier's Railroads! anyone?)
RTS
MMO

And the PC gaming market in non-western nations (such as the places with super competitive Starcraft tournaments) has never been better.

Unless you want to claim the millions of units of Total War or Civ4/5 were sold to the casual gamers of the PC.

I hope they see this and think "Now we're popular, we don't have to worry about pandering to new players, as our fanbase is huge!" but I think their conclusion will more likely be "We're insanely popular, let's get more popular by making the next game even simpler and easier to get into, in fact let's not even worry about making it good and full of stuff!".

No, I can't congratulate with Bethesda for selling a lot of copies on many false promises.

Nice. I think Bethesda were also surprised by the sales on Steam. Their stance changed a few weeks after launch, from "the PC is not a priority" to "the PC will get more attention".

It's a shame those numbers are never disclosed so they can tell us whatever they want.

Yes. Because of casual games and MMOs which hardly constitute what most people think when saying "PC gamer".

Plus there are still some genres that are probably best represented and presented on the PC

Strategies are limping. Simulators are pretty much dead. Even the RTS genre is limping.

Unless you want to claim the millions of units of Total War or Civ4/5 were sold to the casual gamers of the PC.

Care to link to the source of "millions of units" sold?
