Yeah because the traps wont kill them and they are usually two miles behind me so yeah this really blows.

Yeah, Bethesda needs to fix this.

There's a dungeon with pressure plates that spew flames up through the pressure plate while you're on them, they almost permanently trap companions.

I've been trying a few follower mods, here is one that works far better than Bethesda default. It's for a prettied up Uthgerd, she'll wear any light armor you give her and very seldom blocks doors or gets in your way, uses mostly a bow, but is competent in melee. Ignore the skimpy armor in the screenshot, her default is fine clothing like Maven wears, you have to equip her with light armor of your choice.
'She is a Ranger - deadly with a bow and competent with blade and shield.
Most importantly, Uthgerd is stealthy as a cobra and if you add some sneak enhanced items she will be even more so. Her skills have been altered to use light armor to further facilitate stealth."

Here is another very interesting follwer mod, I haven't really tried it yet, Uthgerd is working so well for me. This one has some very interesting concepts and if it works well it will add tremendous variety to followers.

Do either of those keep them from setting off traps?

as a stealthy charecter I would like to stop followers attacking enemies on sight. I would prefer my followers to hang back and join in on my command. need a mod but would prefer bethseda to add more commands

You could just use the "go here" type companion commands to steer them around traps.

What would really rock is if lockpicking could be used to disable pressure plates. Maybe some brilliant mod author can cook something up?

I am tired of followers, full stop!

Fake AI....

J'zargo was particularly lame.... I gave him the Dragonbane but he insisted on attacking Dragons wth his fists and generally being a jerk.

Didn't last long, let him to die in Minzchaleft (or wtv) - he did try to kill me with the scrolls I was supposed to test for him, and was a general low-life.

URGENTLY NEEDED "NO FRIENDLY FIRE" MOD or I stop playing!!! :yuck:

Well, I won't stop playing, but I do fully agree with needing the mod. I don't like followers period, but if there was an AI-fix mod I'd probably take the dog....

Here's a great suggestion for the Bethesda folks (I'd yell that, but I doubt they'd hear me anyway).

You can already select "Wait Here" and point to where you want followers to go. All they have to do is insert a "Avoid This" and point and click on a selected spot of ground. Then their AI engine could pick a route to follow you that still follows you, but passes as far away from that "Avoid" point as possible without completely leaving the area/room/etc.

- Dave

P.S. Is it arrogant for me to call my own suggestion "great"?

Maybe. :) But I think you've got something there. I would also like to see them change the fact that when my character is attacked, they blatantly ignore my "wait here" command. Drives me nuts when I tell Argis to wait behind me, set a nice fire rune for the bad guys to run across, and then have Argis charging out in front of me and setting off my carefully laid trap himself. >_<

It is your own fault. You can command them you know.

Two things I wish for:
1. An ability to point out trap triggers so that followers won't trigger it.
2. Ability to control distance and combat techniques (instruct followers to use melee or ranged) with followers. You could do so in Fallout 3 & Fallout New Vegas, so why didn't they implement this in Skyrim?

Does anyone know if followers will use potions besides healing? Argis uses healing potions on his own, but I've tried giving him resist Frost and Fire and Restore Stamina, which he does not seem to ever use. Also, since I made him a complete set of Epic level Orcish armor, he wears it when we leave the house, but now can't carry more than his weapons and a couple of potions. Does the armor they come with weigh them down? I can't take it away from him, but his usefulness as a pack horse has been seriously diminished.

I gave Mercurio some restore magicka potions to carry, and he used them. I thought he wouldn't. Kind of bothered me as I planned on using them after I used what I carried.

Odd In my experience I've found followers are quite good at following my footsteps and avoiding most traps if I avoided them. Dead Thralls not so much.

Friendly fire should be out of this game if you're going to be a mage =/
That would have been a nice perk for the destruction tree.

The only good thing about Followers in Skyrim is that they are less suicidal than in OB. At least here you can tell them not to follow so they have a chance to survive, but of course that removes the point of followers too. OTOH, it also removes the annoyances such as that gate video showed.

I personally have worked up my Conjuration & all my followers are summoned & don't last long enough to get in those traps or otherwise bug me.

after the first 20 levels i find that any warrior follower gets in the way.

i have had to reload more times than i can count to have Lydia alive.

i have never been able to control my follower as well as i would like.

if i say wait here and get into a fight... they show up.

life is better without followers.

when you are playing Master level, proper follower will be your life-saver.

I still hold that a conjured follower makes more sense. When one croaks, you just gen another. The only follower I've had which helped more than it annoyed has been Shadowmere.
