Because wolves hunt at night, you find them in the night. They can't see your unsettling wolfish grin, the fur coming out of your ears. You look like a proper human. You're not in Beast Form, so they're hostile.
Wolves discover the world with their nose first, in contrast to humans who mainly use their eyes.

So they
should be able to recognize you by smell, even if it's less pronounced than when you're in werewolf form.
Why would wolves not attack you when you're in human form? You probably don't have whatever pheremone glands the wolves use to identify you as friendly when in human form, only when you're transformed.
Those glands are mainly placed at the same places on the skin, no matter what kind of mammal (e.g. under the arms). And yes, humans do excrete pheremones.
