Is this quest still bugged? I didn't played this quest with any of my previous characters, but im' at the point where i suppose to walk the streets of Windhelm at night and reprehand the killer, but i waited all night and nothing happened.

I think the quest is called: Walk the streets at night at Stone arch or something simular.

I didn't notice any bugs when I went through it.

Worked for me too - when I discovered I needed to be in the market place.

I'm on PS3 and I'm lucky as hell - it's worked on both of my characters pre-1.4 and I committed two huge no-no's on my 2nd one. :o

Like Rohugh mentioned: if you go to the marketplace outside the White Phial you should see something. :P

I just fin ish doing this quest for the 100000000000th time and I notice that right after I spoken to the windhelm wizard... he told me that the butcher will come again the very next day, and will be in the marketplace during the night. It was around 11 in the morning at the time. After speaking with him I decided to sell off some of my weapons that I've looted from bandits and what do you know? The butcher was right there IN THE MORNING and was going to kill again.

I think the time frame was a bit off.

I think this quest is bugged and he shows up at the marketplace the first time you go there, whether it's daytime or nighttime.

But if he's not there at all... try waiting 24 hours. After that, reload an earlier save?

Blood on the Ice is very buggy. :ermm:

The quest says to patrol the Stone Quarter at night. It doesn't just mean wait where the marker points you to. When you patrol, you walk around and look for the killer. He isn't about to look for you.

I worked for me at the quest location however the marketplace is better as you can stop the killer before he kills the lady.

I just wait an hour and if nothing happens I try again.
Do another hard save before this.

to those who want to know who the killer is, so that he/she can stalk the killer and save the woman from being killed, here is a minor spoiler. Not gonna reveal the name, but i figured out most of u knew who the killer was anyway.

After receiving the quest to patrol the stone quarters, the NPC that you attempt to talk to, will be tagged as 'BUSY'. Simply follow that person and strike him ONLY when he is about to launch an attack(when the woman screams HELP). Otherwise its 1000g bounty for u.

It bugged on me when I did it. instead of attacking at night, the killer did it at high noon, in the middle of a crowded marketplace. The victim's screaming for help and no one even seemed to notice or care.

I deliberately went there at night, and had a guard standing watch looking straight at the scene, doing everything in her might to not care at all.

While you're told the attack will be the following night it actually occurs the next time you go to the marketplace, regardless of what time of day you go there. It does this because the trigger used to cause the attack checks whether or not you entered the trigger volume (basically a large invisible box) around the Windhelm marketplace, but does not also check the time of day.

it also doesn't matter if you walk around or not; I usually stand still near the smelter for a little while, and then the killer shows up, checks the lay of the land, and then attempts to strike, at which point I intervene. If you wish to prevent the killing, do not attack the killer before he makes his move; he is essential until that point, and you'll get a major bounty for attempted murder.
