Whiterun...

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 6:52 pm

* One General Store
* One Alchemist
* Two blacksmith's
* One mage
* Two taverns

*Produce Stand
*Meat Stand
*Trinket Stand
*Kahjiit Caravan Outside
*Warmaiden's Blacksmith shop has a second merchant inside.

I've owned every house and Breezehome is by far my favourite because of location, the only problem I can see with Whiterun is that Breezehome doesn't have an enchanting station and with mods it does.

I also end up with another general merchant in Whiterun because of who I marry.

Also it is in close proximity River wood which has more trades that will still be open if you walk or fast travel.

Possibly the best benefit is that you have the ability to get close to almost everyone in the town, I'm constantly being given free stuff, and I can walk into almost everyone's house and take what I want without the whole "steal" popping up. Not that I do it.. but it is an opinion for quick cash as it respawns.

Personally given I've spent time in all the other cities Whiterun is underwhelming but the best of a bad situation which influences all the cities and towns of skyrim.

If you're worried about the mercants not having enough $$$, just get the Investor perk. They'll have plenty of gold to throw around.

I come back to Whiterun more frequently than I thought I would. I own the homes in Solitude and Markath, which are great, but Whiterun has a certain pull to it.

I think you are bugged. Both of the smiths as warmaidens have separate gold accounts in my game.

they share the same purse on mine to, not sure if that was fixed in either of the patches cuse i stoped trying after the first trip there

Considering Whiterun is often the first town for anyone, practically made to be so
Spoiler
by following the main quest
, it would make little to no sense if the house there was lavish.

I don't understand why people are so concerned about their houses. The thing Breeze home needs is an enchanting table. It had a couple Bookshelves, lots of shelving to place special items on, 2 chests, and lots of other storage for items.

So it lacks lots of weapon displays? I just have mine on tables, benches, or anywhere else they fit and look nice. The lack of mannequins are of no issue to me as they are bugged anyway.

My second favourite house is Solitude, because it has separate areas that you can rationalize is for separate storage. Other that I found myself almost exclusively going to my top floor to the bottom floor. The middle area is cluttered and redundant, people living with me tend to knock everything over every time they walk by in that area.

I believe it's designed well to be sufficient for a starting character, but with better options to grow into. If the beginner town was the best option, you would be here complaining about the fact that there was no reason to go anywhere else.

That was my thought too. It's the starter town. Whether the player decides to stay there is their decision.

[Edit] I didn't know it was described as the trading hub for the entire province either. While it does have a fair selection of shops, I always assumed that title would go to Solitude because of the port and the trading companies there (or maybe Winterhold? I think they've got one too now that I think about it).

How do you know it was the plan? You can't say it's the main city only because it's in the center of Skyrim. You get there instanlty because you have to get SOMEWHERE instantly. The house is cheap because it's probably the first house you'll buy and because it's so lacking compared to other houses.

So do you have a point or do you just like writing words? You pretty much said same thing I did here. Whiterun is main city in the game because it's first one you visit and it has cheapest house. So significant majority of the players will make their "main base" in there.

If you're worried about the mercants not having enough $$$, just get the Investor perk. They'll have plenty of gold to throw around.

I'd love to get Investor - even though it requires three worthless perks to get it - but some twerp thought it would be a good idea to give it Speech requirement of seventy. I'm level 53, I pick up every magical item, potion, gem, soul gem, etc. I see, I sell them all, I don't sell in batches to get most Speech XP, and I'm still nowhere near seventy.

Towns in Skyrim ARE underwelming.

Whiterun is probably still the best of the lot. Rorkstead is composed of three houses and yet it's called a village. Winterhold is a hold despite being no bigger than that. Solitude and Riften are pretty small and underpopulated, despite being in separate cells.

The house in Whiterun is meant to be acquired cheaply and by anyone.

I think in the time period skyrim is in, it fits it well.

I don't think there is supposed to be a "main" location throughout the game... Except maybe Sovngarde. I think Breezehome is a great starter home: not too big, plenty of storage. It wouldn't make sense to put mannequins in it as you'd probably have to rip out the alchemy lab and turn that into the armoury (which wouldn't bother me as I usually play a warrior).
