Even DnD people get confused. People think of monks in DnD as being UNARMED, because their best feats (perks) were unarmed related. HOWEVER, they forget they did get proficiency with a really wide range of exotic and martial weapons (Staves, nunchaku, sais, swords, shuriken, darts, throwing knives (I think), bows which many perks rolled over onto.

Just not many people tended to roll monks that used weapons because if they wanted to use weapons they'd roll a fighter (warrior)

I would have to disagree with that, most times a monk in D&D would be using fists only simply because most special abilities relied on being unarmed (like Ki Strike, Quivering Palm and Stunning Fist).

Just made a thread about how they could make an unarmed skill.

You can play as a monk in this game if you want to, I assume they will improve the alteration armor when balancing.

Umm... There are no classes anymore? And good riddance i say.

I agree! I would've never picked up enchanting or Restoration if there were classes. I'm one of those pick seven skills you'll ONLY focus on. The system now encourages you to branch out thankfully.

I hope there's no more shouts in the nest TES game. It's a pretty stupid feature if you ask me.

Think about it, maybe for the next TES game. Now that we have shouts there is some plausible power to being a monk. And shouts supplemented with blessings and hand to hand could make for an interesting play through. They could have a skill for shouting and be able to shout more powerfully and more often as they leveled it up. They could learn new words from some priests.
You can make one. It is sort of how I play. There is a mod on skyrimnexus.com that has morrowind weapons, samurai swords and staves and stuff get that and you got yourself some monk weapons. Most peopel think monks are un armed but they arent, they train in martial arts and weapon fighting. I watch this show on tv, I think its called pit fighter or something, where 2 guys go all over the word and for a week will learn a different martial art. They split up one trains the modern way and the other the traditional way. They were trained by monks and they had to learn how to use a variety of weapons but when they fought they fought with bare hands for safety reasons.

For skills I would use:

-One handed Swords
-Alchemy
-illusion
-Restoration
-Speachcraft

Dont use any armour, and if there is anything else that seems relevant for a monk use it.

It's both funny and sad that several people's first response to a monk class is to think of the coming WoW expansion. Only one person got it right and the current RPG monk originated from AD&D in the 1980s. That being said, the monk gained popularity during the times of Everquest and other games of the early 21st century not named WoW.

Saw this same thread at the Rift forums and the responses there were eerily similar. "No eastern martial arts in MY western fantasy setting RPG."

Finally, to the "no place in a TES game for shuriken/throwing knives" I give you Morrowind. Read 'em and weep.

In NWN which was based on 3rd ed. D&D monk builds that relied on dual-wielding kamas were common and very effective.
Still I'm not convinced D&D-style monks fit in Tamriel. Martial arts on the other hand do.
the majority of Khajiit prefer to use their razor-sharp and retractable claws as weapons in numerous forms of Khajiiti martial arts like Goutfang, Whispering Claw and Rawlith Khaj
I hope that future TES games include a HTH skill.

Eventhough there is no skill tree for it, it's still usable. I haven't checked but I believe gloves of the pugilist can be destroyed which means you can use that enchant on heavy armor greaves. Along with the heavy armor perk. You might be able to use the pugilist enchant on a ring as well, doubling the strength. If you like the beast races kitty has claws as well. And yes the unarmed finishers are brutal.
