its it safe to store goods in chests located in the guilds? I am role playing a thief and need to stash items accordingly.

Depends, I know there are some supposedly safe storage containers in different faction HQs but many of them do respawn even if they seem like they should be safe for you after you join.

There's one place near Riverwood...

Chests that are not in dungeons or barracks seem to be safe according to the CK. There are a couple of chests that respawn, but they are called something else besides chest. Most furniture is also safe.

Now, even in places where the container's do reset, if you return to that cell every 29 game days, it should never reset. Note the word Should and plan accordingly.

Does it?! I've been wondering this for ages, the fact it has an Enchanting table and Alchemy lab is sweet, but ive never been sure if it resets?

I've just answered this elsewhere, but here it is again. Using the editor, the only storage there which is safe is the two sets of drawers upstairs, and the sack downstairs (by the ladder). Everything else, including out in the open, resets.
