Different things you've noticed after updates

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:45 pm

The biggest thing I noticed in the patch is my quests work now! Also Smithing is now almost as hard as Alchemy to get to max level. My biggest gripe about things they HAVEN'T fixed are followers still do not level up properly and the best house in the game: Hjerim is still bugged like crazy :(

I take it you mean the greek looking crested helm that was already in the game. The water should look great, it may be glitched for you.
whats the name of that helm? i've never seen that but my load screen shows a skull with a circlet on it, i wonder if thats in game

Very true about the smithing. Each time I went around to RiverWood, Solitude, Windhelm and Whiterun just to collect iron ingots. I had 234 leather strips and 104 iron ingots and I'm still no where close to 100 in smithing. I love that house to, I wish they would fix it.

It figures. I played the game straight, had fun and now, when I tried to cheat some of my skills, it seems that they've disabled the console commands. Now, it could be that this was done before the latest patch, but I haven't been able to find any threads mentioning this. I tried to up my Sneak skill a bit, and, while the command was accepted, the altered skill amount number in the Skills Menu was in green for Sneak, and when I leveled it during normal play in Riverwood, it showed as the original skill number, not the cheated amount.

Not a biggie, but I was looking forward to upping some of my beginning skills so that I could play at the Master level. I'm way too spazzy to do it without them. Heheh.

EDIT: Ok, I guess what happens is that the consoled amount becomes like an enchanted skill, so that it would work, but not count towards the perk tree nor the actual leveling. Hmm. That sounds even better. I don't want to cheat all that much, I'm fine with having to work for the perks.

No clue.... I haven't allowed the update to 1.5 - or even the later 1.4 version. Not having any issues, why should I update?

It's just called Imperial helmet. It is at only three locations in the game, and to my knowledge it doesn't respawn.

Indeed. It's the outside area high about Deepwoud Redoubt, at the end of the Hag's End that's like a dungeon within that dungeon.

Because mods rely on them ...? And the little extras, and possible bugs getting fixed without your knowing? I dunno, I just like to keep it updated, but I only let it after a week or so when everyone else already downloaded it and had their say about it making the game better/worse. If it causes more (console-unresolvable) bugs than it fixes them, then I'll wait for the next patch.

Steam updates the game automatically, so, unless you un-tether the game files from Steam, you get updated. I bought Skyrim about 3 updates ago, and I was relieved to read in the fora that the updated version I started on had fixed almost all of the quest glitches and backward-flying dragons, etc. It's been rock-steady for me ever since. Oh, and I guess I also got lucky because it seems that before I started, higher-end Nvidia cards had some issues that were addressed.

I'm starting to follow in your foot steps. I've always been the update kind of person but I had to reinstall my entire game recently because after updating my game to a newer version it became unplayable.

Oh and in generally speaking the new kill move cam svcks.

I never allow Steam to start online.... I wasn't happy about having to use Steam to begin with, and since it and the game are perfectly happy to run offline, it works for me.

Ditto. I stay offline until I know a new patch has come out, and it's been around long enough for the mods I like to catch up if necessary, and I can see some feedback on what it does and any unexpected problems it might cause. Even then I usually wait until I'm ready to start from scratch with a brand new character. Then I go online and let it update and start putting mods back in after I check for any updates on those. I have to say I've had zero problems so far after letting Steam install a patch but I figure better safe than sorry.

I've also noticed that Lydia gets in the way much, much less now...
