Any tips for Micromanaging

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:50 pm

Sadly, I have a need to micromange to absurd amounts in RPG's. I got my micromanging fix in Oblivion mostly via Efficient Leveling (5+5+5).

Party management is a good cure but i tried this with companions, and well, it was an epic fail.

I've restorted to things like having the most organised house in Skyrim, never going on a quest carring more than 30 weight, keeping the Misc quests in the journal down to 3 entires max etc, Not really micromanging but as close as i can get.

I know others here like to micromanage and was curious to know how you are coping and if you had any suggestions :)

I tried micromanaging enchanting/smithing/alchemy to make my character a baller and it broke the game haha. Own even ancient dragons on master difficulty.

I try to carry 3 sets of equipment on each character, normally melee/magic/defense, and I only pick up spanky stuff I haven't seen before or nice poisons/potions.

With companions, I always use them as a Plan B contingency. When it hits the fan I fall back to the companion to give myself enough time to regroup. While it can add an added sense of urgency in combat, I find that more often that not they just get in the way.

As far as houses go, I organize Breezehome to such an extent that I never move anything and as a result... just spend all my time there and never visit the other homes.

Yeah i've mostly avoided enchanting/smithing/alchemy for that reason, even as pure mage. I enchanted my items to resist magic, made a few potions and moved on.

Cool. I'm not alone then.

Probably do need some kinda help. Went to a friends and he was playing Skyrim. He goes into his house, Honeyside, and drops his loot into a chest. In this chest are all his items. ALL OF THEM!! I When i said "what the hell", he just gives me a blank puzzled look and says "what??".

lol

I did that at first, and eventually separated items just because the chest was so full that it operated slowly - and still does, really. I'm still using the house in Whiterun mostly, and I've got all jewelry (rings, necklaces, circlets, etc) in the left nightstand, books that won't fit on the bookshelves in the right one, clothes in the dresser, potions and scrolls in the chest in the Alchemy room, alchemical ingredients in the apothecary's pouch on the alchemy table, food ingredients in the wardrobe/shelf beside the door to the alchemy room, and all smithing supplies and equipment, from ores to ingots, to unused gems to enchanted smithing-improving items in the barrel under the stairs.

All other treasure, be it weapons, armor, mammoth tusks or dragon bones and scales, goes in the chest/footlocker in the bedroom.

What I want, though, is a house with like a zillion armor dummies around so that I can have one of every kind of armor on display as trophies.

I have a thing about clearing out houses when I'm out burglaring. I CLEAR them. I take everything, no exceptions. Every basket, clothes iron, jug and goblet gets sold, even if I get 0 gold for it.

I thought I was the only person who put all of the different types of items in different containers, and pursued a collection of one of each...

I have so many weapons and armor in my Breezehome chests/drawers...

Skyrim literally has to take a second just to load it, I have actually hard froze or crashed the game just "getting all" on accident.

Gawd that is annoying as well, for some reason I go to store things and every so often will hit the other button to get all.

Immediate facepalm, AND 20 minutes of putting stuff back up if it doesn't crash or freeze.

Well, only interesting things for me. I wanna have all kinds of weapons, armor and staffs on display as trophies. I have no interest in being that guy that tries to collect as many cabbages or whatever as possible.

There is this wheel on my mouse, which helps me go through the contents of my chest. The only stuff I've got in a separate chest are my ingredients, potions and materials. Weapons, armor, jewelry all go in the same place.

Alternatively, there is a mod, which forces categories on containers.

//edit

To help the OP: I get my fixture out of switching up my attire from time to time and therefore smithing and enchanting stuff with the same properties over and over. ^^

Yeah i'm there!! Ok see if you can beat this. I used console commands to display my 5 insect-in-jars exactly spaced at a distance of 20 along the x axis

Oh no, I hear you.

I just find it extremely tedious, as others find organization, to scroll past shield/necklace/armor/shield/ring/helm and then finally find that dagger I was looking for.

*EDIT*

I would guess that a little organization saves at least 10 hours of 'gameplay', unless you have spanky mods of course. But hell, we could fix the White House if we had the appropriate mods.

Oh yeah. That's seriously OCD. I'm not really OCD, I just hate having to scroll down a loooooong list of random crap, especially when the chest operates so slowly when it's full. If (1) the containers didn't operate slowly and (2) categories worked for them like in the character inventory, I'd probably still just be chucking everything into the footlocker.

I refuse to carry anything with me except for the armor I'm wearing and 3 health potions. If I need to loot something for a quest I must finish that quest immediately. When I want to loot for money I make a special trip to do that. If i'm just out wandering I will not loot or pick up anything.
