Paralysis Through anolysis.... Just Choose and GO!

Maybe it`s just me, but it seems strange that so many people don`t seem to know what they want to be. they post and ask OTHERS what they should be.

But... How do we know what they want? We don`t know their personalities and 9 times out of 10 we get it wrong and they do their own thing anyway.

I guess it`s just me, but when I start an rpg, it`s very simple... I start with an idea of what i want to be like. who are my favourite kind of Heroes... Conan, Boromir, King Arthur. what do I like about them- they`re noble, straight forward and have a simple way of killing with a noble weapon- The sword. They`re human. They don`t use magic.

Job done. I pick a sword wielder type, traits to suit that. Any gaps I fill in with what suits my own character as well as the game character best.

It really can`t be so difficult with mages or thieves or whatever else.

Neither do i agonise over exactly how many points to the nth degree does my sword do over another sword as long as it does the basic job. If it isn`t killing well enough, then sure, i`ll check the stats for a slightly better sword and more protective armour, but that`s it. Neither do I care if a Player Wizard somewhere is more `uber` than my Warrior. l ike my rpgs `spread sheety` because I know all the numbers are there, but I don`t agonise over them- keep `em hidden.

At the end of the day, make what fits YOU and your character and\or Hero you`ve seen you`ve always liked, then pick a face and go explore; go see what happens.

Really, save on the brain\belly aching.

Just my 2 pennies.

I guess this because of my post that you commented on earlier ha.

To be honest, all the options I was considering were close in terms of play style, using the same skills. I just was unsure which was the right way to go for me, so I thought I'd get peoples opinions.

I see your point though, I don't really play aiming to be a walking god, that isn't what games like this are meant for IMO.

I always play how i would if, i was the character in game. So there isn't much difference between my chars in different game. Usually Mage/thief if possible, or Mage, and mainly Chaotic neutral. Don't mind doing harm to other, if it can bring me power, with little humanity left, but still present.. sometime.. for the people who deserve it.
