Lets make a better game

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:33 am

I wanted to share a few ideas on how to improve Skyrim (or a future game) and also get your ideas as well. Maybe some of these could lead to mods or something.

Guilds- I wouldn't really mind if the quests to become leader were this short, if there was actually something to do afterwards. Example... lets say i was the TG leader. Why aren't I blackmailing a blacksmith to make me some illegal weapons and bribing a carriage driver to deliver them across skyrim? Or scoping out merchant caravans to rob? Sending the proper associate to take care of certain problems?

College- shouldn't we be working on rebuilding Winterhold? Finding uses for our magic to help the people and repair our image?

DB and companions- I have no ideas so thats where you come in!

Recognition....we all hate that nobody gives us respect for our position. definately needs fixed.

Civil War- Maybe have something to do with uniting the holds after the war? cleaning up the mess?

Need better houses. In games like this, people like to show off their achievements. Need a castle or something with more display cases and such. I wish i could drop gold or fill up coin purses around my home to make me feel rich. I want to dive into a pile of coins!

I guess most of these ideas stem from the really terrible endings to everything in Skyrim, which is a severe disappointment considering how truly awesome it COULD be.

I will have more later, but would like to hear your ideas on guild or gameplay or whatever. Things to add or do, not what you think is wrong with what mechanics are already in the game.

My personal wishes would be;

1 - A Dragon you could ride

2 - Horse Combat and Jousting competitions for Money

3 - A Gladiator type arena

4 - Agility so Jumping on a roof would be back

5 - Lanterns can be carried aswell as torches

6 - Spears, Pikes, Halberds

7 - Buried treasure and a dig function with shovels

8 - Ability to setup a camp in the wilderness, tent, bedroll, and fire

9 - An instrument which you can input musical notes into a script and then sit back and watch

10 - Pipes and being able to smoke one

Quest lines such as Guilds actually take some thought and time to accomplish as well as have various outcomes depending on what you do and this ties into changes into either society itself or even terrain such as a burned or overrun village.

Longer Guild Storylines and more. No radiant quests. They let the radiant quests do all the work ( Todd even said at one point that there were only radiant quests and that they just threw the main guid quests in to stop it from being boring )

I never bothered with the radiant quests because I knew they would be boring. This lead to the actual quests not make sense. I mean, why am I in the Companions inner Corcle after just one odd-job?

In fact ALL quests in Skyrim felt lazy, short and unimaginative. And the few that had a good story only had one quest.

I remember even in Oblivion the quest lines were longer and very interesting.

And the world felt.. More alive! People would come up to you and ask for help and start huge lines. Why do I have to be nosy and ask everyone or rumors or jobs!

Other than a man asking for a cure for vampirism ( all I had to do was give a potion ) I have ask everyone!

I really hope in DLC and, even though it is years away, TES 6 they focus on quests a bit more.

It is as if we traded hand crafted quests and NPCs for handcrafted world and dungeons when I would love both.

Sorry for the Long Rant! I still love Skyrim though.

Last one - Crossbows and some basic powder/clock work firearm. Sorry, but I personally would love it.

I like these. Whats the point of the Bards College anyway? 4 fetch quests and a speechcraft trainer? Wouldn't be cool if we could actually learn to play instuments or learn new songs? Setting up a camp along the road, tossing back a few ales and jamming on the lute would be great!

I guess with such a huge game world, it boils down to many peoples complaint of not feeling like you are actually a part of it. A game like Skyrim with added things like this would add many more hours for me. Simple things that would enhance the experience. Now i have a better understanding of why some call it an action RPG. I for one, would like to get immersed in the world doing other things besides clearing dungeons. Lets keep the ideas flowing.

My idea for improving future Bethesda games: Fire Todd.

Yes, yes, I know that will never happen. Under his (mis)direction they have made boatloads of money they didn't make in years past.
