Still no news on 1.4?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:09 am

The point is that people have there hopes set on the 1.4 patch fixing everything for Skyrim when the fact that previous games eg: oblivion and fallout are still broken should tell them otherwise.

What are you talking about? The release of the Creation Kit WILL fix everything, just like it did for oblivion. Sure, it won't actually be bethesda fixing things, but that's what the amazing modding community is here for. ;)

People complained when they release the game too soon. And people complain when things are not released quick enough. It's a no win situation for them.
People will complain when you promise a finished game with a marvel of brilliant features and then give them something badly rushed and with most of those brilliant features nowhere to be found, yes. People will also complain if you make the average oister look outspoken and chatty.

No win situation? Nah, they've sold 10-15 million units, so I'd say they've won plenty. And as for getting through things like this without scratches in their paint or flames on their forum, all they'd have to do is not lie their asses off all the time, and actually provide credible updates on what exactly the status is. Surely you don't think that providing accurate information post-release is impossible for a company like gamesas?

Iv been on a lot of forums and these guys seem pretty quiet. But they did state:

After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few. Overall, you should expect updates to be hitting the PC and Steam earlier and more often, as that’s a process we control. Console updates will follow, as they must be certified and processed by those manufacturers.

We all know this is a huge game, and everyone has a different experience. We’ll continue to do everything we can to make the game better and better for as many people as possible every day. We’ve also realized that with the millions upon millions of people playing Skyrim, we need to treat our updates with greater care. If we get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issue, we run a risk of breaking something larger in a game like this. To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates.

Trendy created Dungeon Defenders. A pretty cool game but ended up having to create end game content due to the amount of pressure they received from fans. Those guys gave constant updates on forums and with patches to make fans happy. Pretty amazing team. And guess what? Tons and tons of people still complained they didnt do enough. You can't win in the end so Im not surprised if we hear very little from Beth about future content\fixes.

The daily 400mb+ patches were getting pretty annoying though :P

Not really. With costs to make the game and advertising, its prob not that much in terms of overall profit.

True. But fans wanted end game. Thats pretty much a large expansion. I turned off updates for DD a while ago.

I think the game is now 5-6GB (I have all the DLC) which is rather large compared to the size on launch day, which was about 2GB if I remember correctly.

Anyway, if Beth keeps to their word, bug fixes are first. More content after all thats done. I could be a while due to all the cross platform work that is required.
