It makes sense with the race density, like Daggerfall (and Oblivion, it makes sense the capital would be diverse)

How ridiculous was Morrowind, trying to persuade us Vvardenfell was so xenophobic and beast races are sub-citizens when there was so much diversity? Don't get me wrong, I loved Morrowind, but it was always a minor feature that irked me.

I quite like the lack of beast races and the sort in Skyrim. It makes sense, and it sorta makes my Khajiit (Ra'vhash) stand out a little more. Kinda makes me feel special. (At least when people aren't make snide remarks about his beautiful coat of fur!)

Not sure why some folks see a multicultural melting pot when they think of Skyrim but whatever.

Same here, my orsimer is more special, and i like that. Daggerfall was full of human too. Oblivion wasn't, but that specific of the country.

It's more realistic that there are few beast races, some more elves and Bretons and imperials, but mostly Nords. Every time a Khajiit says "may you travel on warm sands," it's so unintentionally funny.

I wish the Dunmer were a little more... Dunmer. I dunno, the men especially... where's the fire? the passion?

The average human does not relate to a beast race. They are void to business men, mere game fluff for those die-hard fans.
An opinion that was likely spread among the marketing offices at Bethesda. And otherwise influenced Skyrim in some ways.

So like people say "time is money." And it'd be more profitable for Bethesda to be focusing their employees time on things commonly liked.
Thus the small appearence of beast races is not surprising. I mean their fanbase is small, compared to the larger mass of purchasers,
so why bother to give them anything other than small? yes, it's crude, but it stills keeps that minority happy and gives Bethesda more money.

Now don't take this as me siding with Bethesda. I'm just trying to see it from a business standpoint.
In my own opinion I find this appalling to TES series standard- other games can accurately represent these races and still garner larger content.
Bethesda really need to shape up for the next TES, they've got to get their act together and make us lore-drinkers happy once more.

For a Gray Quarter, there weren't that many Dunmer. I expected Dunmer settlements. (And the ability to see Solstheim.)

Plus elves arent that welcome, you can find plenty of Dark Elves in Winhelm and I notice more elves in Imperial controlled cities. The one race I really haven't seen much of is Orcs.

There's plenty of them in the strongholds. Not many in the cities

The strongholds are pretty deserted though, about 8 orcs tops

It really doesnt.
Skyrim has been a part of the Empire for a very long time.
Vvardenfell was only open for Imperial colonisation for 200 years, yet Morrowind had more racial diversity than Skyrim.

This is a design choice, probably to make the game more accessible or to get more 'Conan' in there, either way I think its a terrible shame. The diversity of races was a strong suit of TES.

But before it was opened for colonisation most of it was managed by the Temple as a sort of wilderness preserve. Most of the Dunmer population on Vvardenfell emigrated there from the mainland after it was opened for colonisation.
That too was a rationalisation for a design choice by Bethesda who probably figured that people wouldn't want a game where 90% of the population were Dunmer.

I think they did a slightly better job of the races than in Oblivion. Instead of just being regular people who looked funny, the minor races now fill a specific niche and each have a more distinctive culture and background.
So the Khajiit are mostly nomadic gypsy traders, the Argonians are poor dock-workers brought in from an alien land, the Dunmer are refugees from a ruined country, the Orcs tribals who live in remove strongholds, the Altmer agents of a threatening non-human empire and so on.

Even the human races are more distinct, like the Forsworn - the Breton tribals of the Reach who follow the Old Ways.

A whole province/nation of Khajiit? *shudder*
I do wonder how in the world can Khajit run a nation.

There are Orcs up in Markarth. Foreman at the mine, the Blacksmith, Armourer to the Jarl. There's an Orc Stronghold too.

I imagine that before the Oblivion Crisis, Skyrim was more diverse, but after the crisis and the break-up of the Empire as well as the Great War and its easy to see why there are fewer non-human races, especially when a civil war is going on. Many mer and beast races would likely have returned to their home province or elsewhere to avoid the conflict.

I like Skyrim because there aren't many outsiders... Skyrim belongs to the Nords!

Although the dark elves in Vvanderfell were much more xenophobic. To hell with multiculturalism!

How many want to bet that when they make a game set in Elsweyr, it will be less that 45% Khajiit?

Not sure. But variety in the population is always good, right?

But I′m sure they won′t really make the vast majority of the Khajiit in the southern regions addicted to moon sugar / skooma, just as well as they won't litter the countryside with massive moon sugar grass plantations. (<- both is how the lore says it should be)

A khajit made it past the city gates. He didn't get far though. Game made me kill him in the Ratway.

And how don't we know that wasn't a mass exodus of non-Nords once the Civil War began?

Some imagination people! Even if Bethesda can't use it somtimes, doesn't mean we shouldn't! :)
