Where is Your Disposition?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:37 pm

Disposition, in my opinion, should not have been removed.

I feel if Disposition had been kept, refined and expanded, it could have been linked to the following mechanics:

Speechcraft (Disposition focused Perks, leveling Speech could help you raise Disposition)
Marriage (So many options here...)
Guilds (So MANY options here...)
Merchants (^ but many + MANY)
Crime (Get away with murder because you're basically like a brother to that one guard right there...)

Dungeon Raids... here's the most interesting one...

Walk up to a Bandit Camp...

"You picked a bad time to get lost friend..."

Woahwoah... chance for dialogue!

Dialogue ensues...

Speechcraft comes into play...

"Sorry about that friend... usually it's the Guards that come looking for trouble so we have to protect ourselves. We have room in the camp if you'd like to join us..."

Yeah, I just talked my way into a Bandit Camp and now it's my new "guild," with Followers that I can call upon... or talk them into raiding a dungeon for me.

Disposition, where are you?

I agree, now we have this insane disposition system which has only three categories. We have undying love, neutral, and hatred. It's incredibly unrealistic and barely effects gameplay at all.

I agree. While I never liked the fact that your disposition was represented by a number in Morrowind and Oblivion, Bethesda should have at least added NPC responses to give players an idea of how they felt towards the player and added more options to change their disposition.

Like the idea, OP.
That way Speech will have other uses than earning you more money.

I also miss that ability to talk your way out of a fight, something that would make playing a bard class incredibly useful.

I don't even care if it's still a number above the NPCs head when you talk to them, just something for the player to raise, lower, or leave untouched would have been nice.

One thing I would have loved to see is Merchants you even are neutral to (you never talk to them outside of "let me see what you have for sale") would slowly gain a bit of Disposition towards you because of how often you shop there and would once in a while be like "hey... you come here often, you get a 10% discount today."

Speech + Disposition could have been amazing.

Not only thing but imagine putting it into guilds as well. Talking your way up a rank rather than doing a quest. Talking your way to better rewards for quests. Etc.

That and lose disposition if you go to their competitors in the same hold.

Disposition could have helped make the Guild Quest lines go longer. Faction Rep was the value in prior games, it increased the more quests you did for them. It would have been easy to make it so that people had to do a certain number of Radiant Quests before being allowed to do the next quest in the story line or talk to the next quest giver.

That would have been very interesting.

Belethor: "So... I see you've been shopping with Arcadia a lot more..."

Very much agree with this.

I like your idea for disposition in Skyrim. Let's hope they patch it in later or keep it in mind for TES VI.

I believe, even if no where else, Disposition could have greatly improved the marriage system.
