There's no good high level light armour in this game...

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:49 pm

I only go as far as scaled armor as well (at least on one of my characters), but I am not surprised that high level light armor is "flashy" in the slightest. It isn't supposed to look modest or even practical compared to your surroundings. It should look quite a bit more powerful.

I wish it more closely followed real armor:
Scale, Laminate, Mail, and Plate.

And I wish armor actually had different levels of effectiveness vs different armors.
And location damage, I mean really - is location damage too much to ask for?

For girls it may look good, but it's kinda gay for male assassins.

Well, not what I would say, but it's awkward to be in skin-tight outfits regardless.

Glass is a very good light armour as well.

Glass is an excellent light armor. I can understand if the stealth-types don't wanna wear something polished like glass, but for light-armor warrior types, it's excellent. It looks like a type of Elven armor built for generals and such, with some malachite at strategic locatins for strengthening and to deflect blows. I can easily see it for a sword-and-spell type character, or something along those lines. Maybe even a sword-and-shield character. Probably wouldn't be sufficiently protective for a dual-wielder or maybe even a two-hander, but if you've got a shield boosting your defenses and blocking the worst blows and shield bashing to interrupt attacks, well-improved glass armor should be very protective, and for little weight cost.

Best modified DB armor. Witcher fans know what I am talking about....

I personally chose the Green one. Not skimpy either, just perfect, lot better then the default DB

That's a huge improvement. I can't believe how lame the DB armour is in Skyrim. They know how popular the DB is, you'd think they'd put more effort into the armour.

Glass does it for me.
I love glass armor, it looks AMAZING on my ultra huge orc. ^_^

I'm going to try and get some fur off some bandits. I'm not really moaning, I just wish there were some high level less "fantastical" armours. Like maybe some really rare Khajjit leather, or Argonian.

Agreed. I like the look of the simple armors, hide, leather and fur, and I can put up with scale, but just cannot stomach the look of glass on my Khajiit. Some Khajiit leather armor would welcome indeed!

I like the dragonscale personally, but until I got that i just enchanted the leather armour to make it more effective.

I couldn't find a decent light armor either, so I went in the console and nabbed Tsun's armor for my Redguard. I liked the fur hat and bracers too, but I usually take them off since the armor has some nice spiked armbands. He wears wear heavy Imperial boots to match the steel on the legplates though. Mine is modded black, but the default earth colors match as well. He uses alteration magic before stepping into battle, so no worries about lack of protection

Any armor with proper smithing, alchemy and enchanting can become absolutely legendary.

My favourite set is the Thieves armour. It's not as dramatic as the Nightingale or Dragonscale sets but it looks perfect and practical for a stealthy character. All those pockets for poisons and trickets.

Of course, I wouldn't object to more variety. I hope whatever DLC is introduced provides my characters with more clothing and armour options.

I agree. I was wearing fully smithed and enchanted glass everywhere. What drove me crazy was how LOUD it was. Yes I was muffled, so my enemies didn't hear it, but I still could. Sneaking around it sounded like a dwemer centurion stomping through a marble courtyard. Or maybe it sounded so loud because everything else was so silent. Also irritated me because I would sneak past someone and they would look at me but not see me. Being in third person drove me crazy, I know I'm sneaky, but I'm wearing shiny neon green and gold armor, how do you not see me?

Switch to nightingale armor, and since I really still wanted 1 hand enchantment I switched out the NG boots for just regular tall black boots and enchanted those w/ 1hand and muffle. Still looks great with the armor, my feet are still loud to my ears but cloth/leather on floors sounds a lot better than the glass did. Also when in the shadows I look fairly invisible so I don't get mad at the NPCs for being blind. Of course my armor rating is basically cut in half.
I like the higher-tier Light armors, and in fact my characters usually wear Dragonscale, however I do agree that sneaking around in anything past about Leather looks really stupid. I mean, here's my Thief, in Dragonscale and toting a Daedric Bow, creeping along the wall not six feet from a guy on a stool, and he doesn't so much as twitch, when what he should be doing is freaking out and calling for help. Yeah, the character has 100 Sneak and all the perks, but he still sticks out like a sore thumb.

Protection-wise the higher-tier stuff is easier to cap out, which is the main reason I prefer to wear it. I do have a Thief planned who will stop at Leather, though, since it will be easier to blend in that way.

I just wait till lvl 32 and go for the nightingale set. The blade of woe smiths to legendary without materials for decent damage that the x15 is enough for most things.
But I might do things different and go for a crafted glass set but if I do, it'll have to be modded.

I'll go for black if that is all I can get but the base has to be black and not just the glass trim. If the base was black like ebony armor but the glass trim was more of a black opal (having some interplay of color), that would look damn good.

Tell that to the DB in the game and see how far they drag your corpse through the night and leave it for the wolves....JK JK

Just do the smithing exploit and improve your fur armour or whatever to the damage resistance maximum.

You might like the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Linwe%27s_Armor_Set It's like the TG armour, but defintely less bulky.
