Where do you want the next elder scrolls game to be set in?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:18 am

I've got to throw in with those saying Summerset, and a storyline centered around the Thalmor. Not that I wouldn't also like to go to Elsewyr or Blackmarsh - I think both of those lands could have some truly awesome story telling potential. I just think that, having introduced the Thalmor in Skyrim, and the Psijics (ok, ok, I know the Psijics have been in the lore forever, but so far as I know, Skyrim's the first time you can actually interact with them, sort of).

I'd like to go to Summerset to try to overthrow the Thalmor, and to learn more about the Psijics and Arteum. Also, find out what became of the Eye of Magus, and what it does.

Finally, with Skyrim being a game where, because of the setting, magic is downplayed, it'd be cool to swing the pendulum to the other side and go to the most magical province, and have a much more magic-focused game.

I believe the reason Beth renamed Summerset Isles "Alinor" is because "Elder Scrolls VI: Alinor" sounds better than "Elder Scrolls VI: Summerset Isles" .

Yeah, doesn't "Summerset Isles" sound like some place that old people go to retire?

Well, it is the home of the Altmer. Something tells me we're going to find Divayth Fyr playing golf somewhere.

Exactly. And for someone unfamiliar with the series Summerset Isles sounds more like a My Little Pony game than an epic fantasy.

ES4 was called Oblivion, not Elder Scrolls: Cyrodiil. If the next game was to take place in Summerset Isles, it could have a different name. It would also follow a pattern, with Daggerfall and Oblivion being the even numbered entries in the franchise, and not named for the province(s) they take place in.

I also like the idea for the next game possibly including both Summerset Isle and Valenwood, as part of some elf war. Daggerfall included two provinces...

I also wouldn't mind going to that place elsewhere, called Elsweyr.

Summerset Isle would also be a good spot.

Hammerfell and High Rock were already used in Daggerfall...

All of Tamriel was in Arena, that argument is moot. Not to mention all you visit is the Illiac Bay region in Daggerfall, not the enitre provience.

Some of us have never played Daggerfall, and very well may not. I know it's free now. I even downloaded it a year or two ago when they made it available the TES website. I played it for about 20 minutes, and it's sheer antiquity made it just too frustrating for me to play. I can get past bad graphics [I really enjoy Morrowind, still, even though the graphics do leave something to be desired, though they're a marked improvement on daggerfall] - it's that the game engine was very limited in ways that kept irritating me).

Just because they made a game in 1990 that was set partially in Hammerfell, that most people playing TES today have never played and probably will never play, is no reason to never visit it again.

I couldn't care less where the next game takes place, as long as the game delivers. Bethesda seem to like using a different province in each game, and haven't reused any post-Arena, so it just seems unlikely that they'll go back to the Daggerfall areas anytime soon. It could happen.

The Bretons and Redguards seem like interesting races, and I'd like to visit those areas if Bethesda did decide to revisit them.

Todd himself said he wouldn't mind making the city Daggerfall according to the original vision.

My guess is that the next game will either center on the fall of the Empire or the formation of a new one. So, Cyrodiil is a likely candidate. As is Valenwood or Hammerfell with Summerset Isles as an outsider ... I'm really covering my bases :)

i do like the sound of psyjics vs the aldmeri dominion, plus the human-centric games are kinda generic, high fantasy by numbers

With all that snow in Skyrim I 'm on the first caravan to Elsweyr. That and the constant Kajit "May your path take you to warm sands" line has gotten to my subconscious. Besides it will be interesting to see Bethesda's take on eastern landscapes/civilizations/lore and the warm climate is good for intrigue.

Elsweyr or Hammerfell. Somewhere with a desert and just in time for Summer 2012!

I'd really like Summerset as well.

It seems like a more 'out there' location, allowing for Bethesda to be creative with the environment, creatures, culture, etc.

Exploring such a land would be much more interesting than something more real world like Skyrim. Skyrim rarely blew my mind, except when it did bring us to strange locations like Blackreach. It is for this very reason that I fear they won't go to Summerset. After the succes of Oblivion and Skyrim they probably fear to make a less traditional landscape.

Hopefully I am wrong.

P.S. Elswyer or black marsh seem like much smaller locations to me, also a bit too repetitive in landscape. There can be nuances but one is mainly a desert and the other is mainly a swamp. Where as Summerset has swamps, misty mountains, tropic jungle, idilic countryland. Also in terms of culture it seems more unique with communities build around ancient mage towers occupied by their even older lords. Elswyer/blackmarsh seems like a perfect place for Obsidian to make a spin-off game in, after they're done with their South Park RPG.

Akavir.

If only for the fact that it would mean new races.

Ice demons, vampire snake men, monkeys and tiger people, which sound like Kajiit.

I don't think they should do Summerset Isle just yet, maybe for Elder Scrolls 7 but right now it seems a bit too soon. Hopefully the next gen consoles will have a [censored] ton of memory and will be able to be more like PCs. With that, I'm hoping TES:VI will take place in both Elsweyr and Valenwood, both the provinces seem small enough to make a whole game together.

For story I'd like to head to the Summerset Isle or Akavir but for general awesomeness, I'd like to go to Hammerfell or Elsweyr. xD
