Blocking with a weapon.

I don't understand playing like this. Just spamming attacks, boring.

Well because more complicated mechanics should yield a better result, not a lesser one or equal one. It is a game. I am not going to invest in Perks to Block which I take damage from, when I can just side step every attack for no Stamina cost. Yes it is boring, but that is a problem with the game design. I am not going to go a less effective and efficient route. Neither solution is fun to me.

i started investing in shield perks because i saw the last perk. you pretty much become a steam roller. with my current skill i can pretty much block any damage (except destruction spells of course)

It works and is better than being hit. Ofcourse it will never be as effective as blocking with a shield.
Actually, it is only a little less effective than blocking with a shield once you get decent levels in block.

The only times that blocking with a shield is better, is against arrows or if you have the elemental protection perk and crappy resists, spells.

The true use of that perk is against bunnies.

Speaking of blocking by means other than a shield, why can't we just make an 'x' with dual weilding weapons to block? Or hell, block like we do with a one-handed weapon while also having a spell in the other?

Actually, I know from experience that if you block in an "x" motion with two weapons, your oponent's weapon WILL go through, AND your weapons will poke you right in the face or in the chest.
The position in which you hold your arms to do it, you have literally next to no stability.

If anything, HITTING the enemy's weapon with yours would work
