Gaining equipment it too easy

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:42 pm

4 hours to get a good sword? 10 for a set of armor and 12 for a healing spell?

I'm sorry, but I just dont see how any of that would take so long. A lot of that can be found in/around Seyda Neen or Balmora. Honestly, I found the "quest" for the Daedric weapon without any walkthroughs/guides.

Morrowind could be a bit iffy. Wander into the wrong cave at a low level, and you might find enemies that vastly outclass you. Or, stop by a place you skipped over, and you destroy a group of ill equipped, low level rabble. Yet at the same time, I found Oblivion's leveled loot system to be odd. Perhaps it was just because I was so used to Morrowind's system of specific (not too mention named) enemies carrying pre-determined loot.

Oh yes morrowind have problem, but why after 10 years skyrim have same problem and more? Console limiting game or bethesda lazyness?

I don't understand people who power level to get smithing and enchanting super high, make the best gear possible then complain about the game being to easy. Why don't you just not do that.

This, basically. Play an Altmer, only use Elven, smith it up to keep pace with your level. Play as a huntsman, smith your hides so you can keep your hides, without being forced to use glass or dragonscale. Find any magic weapon or artefact, you can have it as your character's weapon the whole game without being under-powered. The smithing and enchanting can be abused, but to gimp it would take away from one of Skyrim's greatest role play assets, having a character who uses equipment appropriate to them, regardless of the artificiality of levels.

I do not power level it. It takes me till I am about level 40 to get master in both. I also do not use the exploits like restoration potions. I use what I have and the normal potions I can buy. Still once you have that armor and weapons it is all over and pointless to have smithing or enchanting after this point. Also the game is not to easy for me. I play on adept and the Forsworn are nasty and I get into challenging fights at times. I know what you mean though. People make uber crap like 20K armor rating and 10K dmg weapons and then whine about it being to easy.

I also like how morrowind offered more of a selection.

In Morrowind, on my first play through I didn't get a decent full set of armor until I was atleast 10+ hours in. In Skyrim I had a full set of Iron Armor within my first half an hour of playing. I liked it in morrowind when I actually had to work for armor. Not only armor, but weapons and spells too. In morrowind I got my first healing spell around 12 hours in, and my first decent long sword 4 hours in. In skyrim I started out with a healing spell and got a an imperial sword in the beginning scene. It's just so unrealistic and annoying.

Realistic?? You are a prisoner and kill an imperial and take her sword. thats unrealistic??? like woow

I agree at the rest tho

If I kill someone wearing full steel, he better goddamm drop that full steel, because "realism" does NOT include invisible thieves stealing my loot.

If it took you 10 hours to get spells and gear in Morrowind, you were doing something wrong. You could buy all the basic healing and damaging spells in Seyda Neen, the very first village you started in, and armor and weapons could be looted from a nearby bandit cave (or steal everything that isn't nailed , and buy it from the merchant in the village).

Not to mention Daggerfall, where you started out with a freaking Ebony dagger and Elven mace, if you made the right choices during character creation.

Dont forget that Iron armor thats nothing, thats your basic gear which you will want to replace asap - its heavy, ugly, encumbering. It took me around 50 hours before I crafted and enchanted my Daedric set, which is a decent amount of game time, I think. Most RPGs dont even last that long lol.

It feels like it takes less time is because you only need four pieces to make up armour.

In Morrowind you had eight pieces (not including clothes and robes)

Yeah I agree. Its so easy to get equipment. In Morrowind it seems to take ages to get decent weapons and armour.

Good point. Ahh, how I miss the pauldrons and greaves.

They should have had more types of armor, with tiers within each type that determined the maximum something could be enhanced in my opinion. Like say, you could find ruined, worn, old, pristine, and finely crafted versions of every type of armor, with their appearance and statistics being slightly different.

That is a good point. You would think that if they were going to create less armor slots there would be a greater graduated list and types of armor to select from. I dont think that it's anymore or less unrealistic than the rest of the game as far as fantasy games go.

High level gear was rare(er) in Morrowind;
and (some) unique items were better than basic
High level gear.

In oblivion every bandit and his mother ended up in full glass/deadric.

In Skyrim you can smith basic gear that's better than any of the unique items; really kills the deadric quests to get an inferior weapon, that is supposed to be so much better than anything else.

Yes I did. We have a maximum right now, but it's bypassed by having proper potions/equipment.

To me its the whole crafting idea that destroyed it. All the equipment is too generic. Where finding cool and unique items have been simply destroyed when you can create it and more powerful yourself.

Well, Ebony blade is supposed to be weak. It's a trick, you see.

Then it's not really a maximum is it, so much as a soft cap? What I am talking about is a hard cap. So a ruined cuirass for example should not be able to go past fine, if it was hard capped to not care how high someone's smithing is, because the item is in too poor a condition.

But what if you DIDN'T make your own armor and only improved on the stuff you found.

Stay away from smithing/enchanting perks! That's what I'm trying to do on my newest character.

P.S. Steel and Arcane are still necessary of course.

You know, http://youtu.be/fqYxxZoXJVc?t=8s is not exactly a good solution, because... it's still there...

You could get an ebony sword after 10 minutes in Balmora if you knew where you was looking, Ghostgate for Glass armor, Reoran vault for lots of good armor.
With the expectation of daeric armor and some special weapons it was way easier getting good gear in Morrowind.
