Thief plus illusion or not

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:13 am

You don't necessarily have to invest in Magicka for your thief, just make sure to get the right perks and train Illusion whenever possible. The only spells that require more than 100 Magicka for a decently skilled and perked character are the Master ones, and I get the feeling your character wouldn't need to use them often. Furthermore, spells like Invisibility and Muffle only need to be cast once every few minutes, giving your Magicka plenty of time to recharge.

Thing is, illusion becomes obsolete unless you use higher-level spells

Alchemy is so good it's almost cheap if you invest the time into it. But I think that's the downside. SInce most people won't put in the time, it will simply be useful tool, but nothing extraordinary. Alchemy archers FTW. C'mon there's gotta be some of you out there.

Anyway I'm torn now after reading these posts. I might just stick with alchemy since I'm so good at it. I can calm people via arrows and go invisible as well. Not to mention do ANYTHING ELSE I FREAKING WANT. Well, sort of. Alchemy is awesome when you get the hang of it. Thing is, it just feels too easy. AHHHHglslghege

I want to do illusion pretty badly. Although, illusion should just be called "Mindf*ck" because honestly that's all it is. Invisibility is the only illusive thing that doesn't involve controlling other people.
I use poisons extensively, so you are not alone ^_^

some interesting comments. lots to think about. thanks very much.

I suppose I should level alchemy but I find that quite time consuming.

If that's what's holding you back from choosing alchemy, then I say go for alchemy. The only time-consuming aspect is finding out all of the effects of ingredients for yourself, which can be easily avoided by using online guides/tools. This is what I used to find out effects, and STILL use to find out which ingredients i need so I can go get some. http://josh-blevins.net76.net/Skyrim/ (it has some bugs but it's still a good tool). Also, getting the perk "green thumb" sooner rather than later makes a ton of difference.

Might I add that you should be able to buy/acquire and alchemists' book? One where ingredients and effects you've found can be recorded so you don't NEED to rely on the internet? Do a quest for some alchemist somewhere and they give it to you as their pupil or something.

It's not just poisons buddy. Potions are just as awesome (invis & fortify 1h ftw!). Although the most common thing I do is poison my electric bow with "weakness to shock" poisons. dragons choke on their own fire, mages throw puffs of smoke, and anything else is just simply disintegrated. Not to mention draugr death lords can't shout you all over the f'ing room.

Yeah, i have on average about 100 pounds of potions on me, considering my stamina is so high i can carry 400 pounds, im fine ^_^. I dont use enchantments on my orc, he is against magic, but i use weakness to poison...poisons all the time.

Alchemy is very useful, like you said above its basically four magic schools in one. The OP should really consider that. Everytime I make a stealth based character I always take illusion of alchemy into consideration. One reason I have always liked magic in TES games. Another option I consider is the versatility of alchemy, if the OP is roleplayig as somebody that has a distaste for magic then alchemy is the way to go. OP just choose what best fits your character there is no right or wrong choice between alchemy or illusion.

There is lIron, banded Iron armor, imperial heavy armor, Steel, steel plate which for sOME REASON is on the light side, dwarven, orcish, ebony, daedric, and dragon bone, oh yeah and ancient nord armor. with LA you have hide, studded, imperial light armor, leather, elven, scaled, glass and dragon scale, 4 more options for the HA, if they all had light and heavy variants, there would be more variation, cuz each variant would look different, light daedric and heavy daedric would look completely different.

There is also fur and three types of elven I have seen. Light elven, elven, and gilded elven. Forsaken armor is also light. I am not saying that the armor can't be tweaked, the more customability aviable the better but I don't see Heavy getting more love then Light.

Traditionally Thiefs don't use Magic, but then again it's a fantasy RPG there are no limits.
