I love Skyrim...my two cents

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:12 pm

Hello,

I've been playing Skyrim ever since it's release, and have some games collecting dust to prove it...lol

There's also been many times I've visited the website, and glanced over many of the threads which have been started here.

It seems that quite a few of them are what could or could not have been done with the game, what svcks, the bugs, it's boring...and I could go on.

If you feel inclined to tarnish my thread or badmouth something about Skyrim, then read no further, and move on to another. This is for people who accept the game for what it is 'A game'...and appreciate the effort the company put into this chapter of the Elder Scrolls series.

I'm just here to say that I love the game, the atmosphere is amazing at times, and the world is incredibly detailed and immersive.

Like many of you, I've played countless games over the years, mostly favoring RPG's, and imo this game has caught my attention the most I can truly say.

I also played Morrowind and Oblivion, but find that Skyrim leaves me staring at the screen for hours and forgetting about everything else around me. If a game can do that to me, then I feel the developers have done their job.

This game was a colossal undertaking I'm sure, and the countless hours that were put into coding, texturing, detailing, voice/sound recording, and testing were unbelievably taxing on the company. You can see the love, and attention that was put forth into this title every time you load the game.

That's much more than I can say for many of those countless other games that we've all played over the years...and I feel I've already gotten my money's worth from this title ten times over already.

Sure there's some glitches, bugs, and flaws available here and there, but what game has ever been released that's perfect?

This is an open world game...you can wander wherever you'd like, do whatever you'd like, at the pace you'd like...it's up to us all as individuals, that's what makes the series so great.

I hate games that hold your hand and direct you through a linear world, using cutsceens and graphics to guide you through the story, leaving you saying "I wonder what's going on over there"...and can't reach it, and walk to that spot.

Skyrim, as the other titles before it, leave me travelling around with a sense of wonder and exploration...and I feel with this title, they've taken the best of everything, and created it in an absolutely breathtaking world.

My girlfriend even watches me for hours, and contributes help and suggestions as I trek around, also being awestruck by some of the scenery and environments I travel through...and believe me, that's never happened before...lol

It's like we're on an adventure together...and I love every minute of it.

This game was created by Bethesda, and is now being played by millions of people worldwide, with millions of different playing styles, and millions of different hopes and wishes for their characters...of course you're bound to run into some snags, and complaints in regards to all that, but as a whole I think Bethesda has done the best job of making it work, than I've ever seen in any other developer...ever...and this is just my opinion, so take it for what it is.

If you enjoy the game as much as I do, feel free to leave your words here...no negativity allowed

This just seems to be a more positive thread than many of the others I've seen here over the past few months.

Excellent job Bethesda...keep up the excellent work!

I look forward to the next chapter of this amazing series of games.

Modders, please help heal the hurt that many of the others seem to be feeling, with their broken, or incomplete gaming experiences...and let's all continue to have a fun time in what again I say is 'A game'...

Take care,

Mike

1/ Shouts - GREAT IDEA - It`s not magic and its not melee-It`s something new and a really clever original idea.
2/ Forsworn - GREAT IDEA - Fighting in bikinis never grows old.
3/ Dual Wielding - GREAT IDEA - It feels good to carry two axes.
3/ It`s the first game to keep me from beer in front of the TV since Dragon Age Origins-So it`s really healthy.

I love this game too. Is it perfect? Of course not. These forums are full of valid complaints. But even though, it's still a great game.

I think that for the most part any person playing Skyrim will agree that the game is fantastic.

It is true that there seem to be many problems in the game and the complaints about such are usually quite valid, well thought out and and written out of genuine concern.

Bethesda has been, to some extent, addressing the known problems with some speed and this can only be positive - even if a fix breaks something else that needs fixing later!

On the whole, I would say, Skyrim is a fantastic game that is being well supported by Bethesda and I thank them for that.

I have to say that I am less than satisfied about having steam forced on to me and that I wish Bethesda could enable native multi monitor support for Skyrim. Other than those two factors, for me, Skyrim is fabulous.

I agree too. I absolutely love it. The reason people are complaining about problems IS because they love it too, but are frustrated.

I love the dragons. I love the main story. I have not gotten bored with ANY side quests. I love the dungeons. I love the scenery. I love the whole look of the NPCs and the player character choice.

And I am on PS3, by the way. I just haven't gotten to an unplayable state. And I've finished one character. There are a lot of folks who aren't that lucky.

Hello,

...My girlfriend even watches me for hours, and contributes help and suggestions as I trek around, also being awestruck by some of the scenery and environments I travel through...and believe me, that's never happened before...lol...

Take care,

Mike

Indeed, I too love Skyrim. I have played many games but Skyrim was the game that won me over. I've watched friends play the other TES and I have always enjoyed the look and style, but I never took it upon myself to fully immerse myself in the Elder Scrolls universe, until Skyrim came along. From the first advertisemant of the game I was hooked and I knew I'd be playing this game a lot. I can't really nail down what about Skyrim has me so jazzed but there is a lot about the game to love.

My wife will often watch me play too. She is my navigator, of sorts. She holds the game guide and knows the secrets but we don't play according to the guide. If I need reminding which mine has what kind of ore then I ask her, and she goes to the guide. That kind of thing. Mostly she just enjoys watching as I guide my character through a thorough exploration of the beautiful landscape. As a dog lover she doesn't like watching me smite the attacking wolves but I tell her that it's necessary because they attacked me first. But, I tend to lose her attention when I start smithing (which I do often). I love the crafting in the game. For me it's like exploring the land. I've been playing as a smith the whole time I've played Skyrim and I've still not made every piece of weapon and armor.

But I love the fact that my wife and I can both participate, to a certain extent, in this wonderful game. And I'm glad to hear that other couples are enjoying Skyrim as well.

She is my navigator, of sorts.

Thanks to the rest of you for the comment on the Avatar...I like him too...lol

Yes...she's my navigator as well, and monitor of my items carried.

We'll get to a chest in a dungeon, and I'll say "Oh look, a glass Battleaxe"...and she'll say "C'mon now, do you really think your going to use it"?..."when you get back to Whiterun, you want to buy the Warhammer off the merchant, don't you"? Then I say..."Yeah, your right" as I hang my head...lol...it's too funny.

She actually has become well versed in the terminology, and items, locations, and spells in the game...we'll plan strategies together when running across enemies that are tough...she keeps up my spirits when I get my ass kicked...hehe

She also maintains the housekeeping, when my weight gets heavy..."No, drop it, drop it, get rid of it...you'll never use it"...she helps to keep me focused...

It would be hysterical if you could create a character to travel with you that could be your wife/girlfriend...then train her with a sword, a dagger...maybe a packsack, even...LOL (Are you reading this Bethesda)?

Anyway, I'm glad to see so many others enjoying this awesome game, as we are...quest on people.

"Agree with me or piss off."
Lovely.

I accept Skyrim as a game, since, you know, it's not a basketball exactly, nor a meat grinder or dental floss.
But that doesn't mean I should ever accept the flaws that spew out of Skyrim from every orifice.
Thing you're forgetting is that in those negative nancy threads a bunch of optimists come in and ruin our fun.
Why?
Cause it's a forum for sharing opinions and debate things.
Asking all negative users to just 'move on' seems very... Ironic.

I've said it before and I will say it again, I think a lot of peope completely overhyped and built this game up far too much. They wanted this to be a completely magical experience and Skyrim is just that but the magic is man made and it's bound to have flaws.

I love this game, it's easily in my top 5 of all time it's the only game that's been in my ps3 since Nov. Thanks for an awesome product Beth!

Everybody in this thread has shown great points on how the game has flaws and where the game is amazing at.

I love the game personally. It's all I have been playing lately. I don't play much during the week only because of College, I still play whenever I have free time, especially in my weekends.

I give the game overall a 9.5 out of 10 (Had it since the game came out)

I cannot wait for the DLC.

I've been playing since release day and having a great time. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It's the game they wanted to make and if some people don't like it, they can go find something they like...easy peasy. I got to wondering who else is doing Radiant Story games because that's one of the things that makes this game so huge in so many ways. Nothing else out there comes close to it...all they can do is eat Skyrim's dust. :D So anyway, Erandur and my little Khajiit are off to Labyrinthian tonight to find an item for the College of Winterhold. I took Lydia home so she'll be safe because Erandur's health is much higher. Wish us luck. :tes:

I played Morrowind and Oblivion and Fallout 3, and could never get immersed in any of them. Morrowind was the closest I got. But Skyrim has me hanging on, exploring, tinkering, trying different things, filling out the map, role playing etc. It's a great platform for freedom. Seeing the number of different playstyles that keep cropping up, from typical sword and board, tanks, mages, thieves, to passive playthroughs, turtle mages.... I've found the most vocal criticism of the game comes from players who expect the game to be able to bend for them, instead of seeing that the game allows the opposite - players to craft themselves and their style around a game world. I know that sounds like a restriction, and for most of those criticising the game for it, it is. But for me, it's an opportunity to explore different options/tactics/characters/strengths. It's like a massive experiment with the game world, and seeing how the game still manages to be playable with so many permutations is quite impressive. Not that every style will be equally playable/powerful, but they will all be viable. Case in point: thief versus turtle mage. Thieves with high sneak can be very strong, but I've been trying out a new type of mage build, and while it's definitely harder, it's absolutely doable. Rather than seeing the game as a limited set of paths (read: classes) to follow, I see it as a chance to see how well I can rebuild my own playstyle to try something I never thought I'd like. So the game allows me to both explore the world they've crafted, as well as myself in how I like to play, how I strategise and perform.

In short, I like it.

You missed my point...

When people start a thread, in no time others come in with their comments, gripes, etc...and personally, I've seen enough of those in other threads to write a book.

This wasn't a thread created for negativity about the game...just for players that genuinely love Skyrim, and are okay with the way things are...that's all.

If you have any bellyaching to do, there's a plethora of threads on this site which should cover every angle for you quite nicely.

Thanks...
