So I stare at the back of my character's head for 100+ hours

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:34 pm

Yeah, I preferred Oblivion's character creation and inventory systems, too. I'm sick of having to use the console to tweak a character every time I get out of Helgen because the lighting is too bright and I can't see the back of the hair.

First person for the win.
Because staring at your hands is so much more interesting!

Oh, that's another thing that bugged me. If I want to see what a type of armor looks like on me, I have to equip then exit out of the menu, then go back in to switch to something else. >.<

Just zoom out to 3rd person and turn the camera to the front of your character. Then go into your inventory and try out different outfits. You will be able to see them on your character that way, without going in and out of the menu.

I don't know about the console versions, but on the PC you can click and hold the left mouse button and swing it to left or right in the character creator screen and your character will look in that direction. The torso rotates enough that you can see a side view and the head rotates enough that you can actually see what the back of the hairstyle looks like. I find this invaluable for finding a hairstyle I like from the rear.

You can make them turn their profile so you can see the back of the head during creation, but that is all that moves is the head. I agree that any additional options in creation is a good thing.

Speaking of helmets, several games (including most recent Bioware games such as DA2 and Mass Effect) allow you the aesthetic of wearing your helmet without having it hide your face. That's something I'd like to see in Skyrim.
Ther is a mod for that in skyrimnexus

You're doing it wrong. You should be creating a Female character and looking at something else :)

Cheers.

Well obviously there's no slider for those.

You can, and it doesn't really give a good look at it - especially for the beast races due to ears/horns getting in the way.

Do what everyone else does in Skyrim when they have a bad hair day, wear a helmet.

To be honest, most helmets in this game are horrible - moreso on my Argonian since the helmet is just stretched to fit the head model.

I look at my character alot x)..
But i do miss the old oblivion Inventory where you could see your character.

Ya know?

Now everytime I wanna see how I look in certain gear I have to go in 3rd person, spin the camera so I'm looking at my front side, make sure there's light on me so I can even see myself... equip clothing... hit back to close apparel menu, look, go back in and keep changing.

I really don't need to zoom in on anything when half of everything's texture only semi-loads crappily. Let me just see my character again.

Yep character creation could use:

-Length changing of hair
-Seeing the backside of youre character
-More colours of eyes (red eys? seriously why no normal eyes for elves)
-Custom Warpaint, not only limited to the head.

As for the Helmet thing, Bethesda is being praise by the amount of detail but why didnt they add an animation where the character removes the helmet when he/she is having an important conversation.

It's optional to hide the helmet.

Don't worry, you won't worry about your own helmet disappearing

It's an option for all the players who like to play without helmets but don't want to lose the AWESOME bonuses that come from wearing a full set.

It makes no sense at all.

"I'm not wearing a piece of safety device, but I still want the benefit".

Just boost smithing, use the Lord Stone, enchant a circlet or other pieces of equipment, etc. There are many ways to replace a removed helmet other than it being "hidden". If you don't want to wear a helmet, fine, but deal with the consequences.

Why not have a "hidden" sword while we're at it? I'm swinging nothing at my ennemies yet they take damage. Same logic. And in both cases it's ridiculous.

Chance to tweak your character at end of tutorial.
Chance to see your character in third person immediately after gen.
Hair length. Hair colour sliders.
Zoom in on gen.
Paper doll.

RIP.

Honourable mention :
Oblivion vanity mode, replaced by Fallout's 'over the shoulder, apparently you need to be able to aim when checking how cool your new hood looks'.
