There's a quest that requires you to sacrifice a follower. That what I meant.
That's what I thought; this character isn't going through the Daedric quests, however. Maybe next time.
Blades Training + Enchanted Daedric Armor + Daedric Weaponry + Sanquine Rose + Destruction Staves + Derkeethus = Follower that can take down Frost Dragons on his own (Without falling to his knees) and never dies.
Except he's a thief, right? My current character isn't a thief and doesn't like them.
Lydia is the follower strictly for unimaginitive noobs. There are far better, much better looking, more competent, and less whiny followers available.
Please don't take this post seriously. I'm not seriously judging anyone's choice of follower.

NOOB???! WHY YOU WHIPPERSNAPPER! I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW I WAS PLAYING SPACE INVADERS AT THE ARCADE BACK WHEN DISCO WAS STILL A THING!!!
Try one of the other followers, the mercs or the "friends". They seem to be much better at following than the house karls. I don't know why, I would assume they use the same AI but it does seem to be the case.
My favorite follower is Annekke Crag-Jumper from Darkwater Crossing. She doesn't always keep up but she is impossible to lose, she always finds her way to me. And she favours the bow eh, so she stands back and shoots and gets in the way less. I've geared her out with anything that does extra bow damage and she's quite a worthwhile companion.

Ah, but do the non-housecarl followers carry loot for you?
This post made me laugh.
Mission accomplished then.
The first time Lydia died, I mourned. The next dozen times, I partied on the inside.
Just can't bring myself to let her die. I'm too responsible a Thane, I guess.
