Are the falmer stupid?

No, he came to skyrim and murdered the elves so he could settle on their land. Then the elves retaliated. You are also forgetting that he dwemer are elves as well.

Before Ysgramor, the Falmer & Nords coexisted. Yes, the Falmer were there first, but they managed to live side by side. Then the elves, feeling threatened by the Nords numbers, began exterminating them. It was only after the 'Night of Tears' that Ysgramor fled back to Atmoro, then came back to drive the Falmer out. The Falmer drew first blood.

They started imposing themselves on the Snow Elves land, what do you expect them to do, say," please, take our land." No.

Again, they werte coexisting quite peacefully. Granted, confrontation for resources would have inevitable eventually (with the Dwemer, that's 3 advanced civilisations in a relatively small area), but there's nothing in the lore that suggests that was happening. The Falmer attacked without warning, and killed EVERYONE. It seems more like a culling than an attempt to get their land back.

So then it is just for the Altmer to kill all the nords? Because the nords killed all the Snow Elves? Violence is not the answer to violence, only if it is unavoidable, in ysgramors case, he started it again.

Falmer stupid? No, just adapted to their environment. Now the Companions, sending a rookie to Shimmermist for the first ever mission, that's stupid.

Actualy managed to do shimmermist at low level, was rather fun. Their stuff actualy proved useful there.

What I would wish though was that falmer caves were actualy dark. Not like the inhabitants have any need for light (safe perhaps their pets, they seem to have eyesight), and it would give torchers, light spells, night vision, etc. an actual use.
