How come I've never ever seen a saber cat?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 8:59 pm

I've played 300+ hours and I have yet to see a Thalmor patrol. That may be a case of me favouring the forests over the roads, but you'd think I'd have seen one by now.

It seems weird not to see a sabre cat. Those things are everywehre and they don't even favour only one type of location.

There is a Sabre Cat very early in the main quest, the same same path where there is a Frost Troll.

I hate snowy sabre cats. Stupid things are ninjas, always attacking silenty from behind. I've literally cried out in surprise when my character gets hit.

the only thing worse than sabrecats are frost trolls.
God, if you dont have fire enchants/attacks, and you are low level player on master, you are literally fked.
Not to mention frost trolls can open doors, enter buildings and stalk you all the way from markarth stables to Riften Fishery.

If u want to find loads of cats, north/west/ of whiterun, dawnstar and riften are hotspots. They usually hunt with wolves though.

I have a similar experience than the OP. I have 109 hours on the same character and have never found the walrus monster from the loading screen or the storm atronach (i dont even have the spell for it). I already completed thieves, mages, companions and main quest. But I have encountered saber cats, dragon priests, vampires, thalmor justiciers, bone dragon, trolls, mudcrabs, giants, forsworm etc. I have also encountered slaughter fish only once and never again.

Horkers (the walrus things) are all over the northern coastline. But if you don't go up to the coast you won't see them.

I even encountered 2 dead ones, and a Mamoth walking away from them.

I honestly get the feeling that I must have been covered with catnip.!
I must be the tastiest elf in skyrim as I seem to attract the damn felines every time that I head north.
My lowly elf, with growing aspirations, is often mauled to death by those sabrecats. They often causing me to make huge wide detours, or to jump up on high boulders somewhere to wait for ages, to then make a mad dash in the hopes of outrunning them, which usually fails.

EDIT:

BTW I am using this mod....

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1348768-rel-real-wildlife-skyrim-10/

which might account for the additional felines, as well as other creatures which I see in increased numbers. It is a good mod to create a more "filled" world.

You probably use fast travel... you're going to miss a lot of the encounters if you do. Sabre cats are in the North mountain area.
Saber cats are pretty much every where. I've seen them repeated;y around the tundra of whiterun, and a few times on the roads to Windhelm and Riften.
Unless I'm mistaken.

I've also only been playing 100 hours total, and I'm sick of the damn things.

Most Sabre Cat encounters are as a result of random levelled encounters, and you need to be level 6 to start getting them (and level 11 for the snow sabre cats). There ARE a few that are Sabre Cats no matter what your level, like one near Autumnwatch Tower.

Personally I've never noticed any Slaughterfish.

You don't simply walk out and "see" a sabre cat -.-

They see you! and you're dead..... =/

While it may seem impossible to some that at 250 hours to not have seen a Sabre Cat. However, it is possible that his/her game has a glitch of some kind. I know how preposterous that sounds, given Bethesda's track record of bug-free games. But it IS a possibilty, albeit infinitessimally.

I also don't understand why Sabre Cats are aggressive towards khajiit.

Same reason lions are aggressive towards cheetah and leapords. They see them as competition for food. They're also easy marks to steal food from.

What difficulty level do you play, just out of curiousity? I've found that I tend to see a lot more of them playing on expert+.

They are only found in certain regions so you might not have been to the area where they can be found. The main areas you see them are the tundra west of Whiterun, and the snowy region around Winterhold.
