I've had guards comment on my light armour "Light Armour means light on your feet, smart!"

I was trying to get a mod working, wherein placing a Mammoth Tusk on the ground should make the companion pet stay, I got it working only to have it brought back to me by one of the Grey-Manes, the pet bounding along willfully behind him.

I also had some guy just inside the Whiterun gate challenge me to a Mage duel, I burnt him alive, and the guards cheered!

For some fun, in a mage duel use an attronach on your enemy...

The fist fights are a mess. I always end up punching one of the innocent bystanders because they HAVE to walk straight through the battle zone, and then I have the whole crowd beating on me with swords.

I've had several NPC's challenge me to bar brawls. I have this guy that keeps showing up telling me I owe him money and I have to fight him. I found an orc standing the wilderness who wanted "a good death" and I dual sworded his head off. Good indeed! I think the people who attack you out and about are considered "duel" challenges.

Yeah I guess y'all are right that these are considered duels. I guess I was hoping for real challenges and real duels, you, not to the death, but like renaissance or medieval style.

There are a number of people who will initiate brawls with you if you start talking to them. I've run into several people on the roads that I can pick a fight with if I take the correct dialogue options when I speak with them. Those are to the death fights.

As for dropping stuff, yes, it is in the game. People don't pick up everything but they will go after some stuff especially more expensive items. Two instances I've had is where I set some armor down in Riften and a guy came up and asked me if I still wanted it and I had the dialogue options to say whether he could have it or not. I dropped a flawless gem by the vendor stalls in Whiterun and a woman picked it up and I thought she was just going to take it but she walked over to me and said she believed I dropped something and gave it back to me. That last one really surprised me because I was just expecting her to pick it up and walk off. That was pretty cool. Actual NPC honesty. I've heard you can start a fight among NPC's by dropping expensive items around a crowd which is what I was trying to have happen in White run but I haven't seen that yet. I never tried again either so maybe that's something I'll experiment with now.

I had the Mage challenge me once on my Breton and once on my Imperial.

The Breton is the min-maxed type who laughs at anyone trying to kill him with magic, the challenger was beaten to death with a kettle using telekinesis.

The Imperial is the glass cannon mage who promptly gets owned by the first ice spear. Rejecting the duel did not help and I died another 3 times before managed to take cover behind some houses and summon Atronachs to tear him apart.

As for dropping items, I have had no luck. Despite baiting with a legendary daedric armor more expensive than the solitude house, I have not seen anyone react to it. The only one that worked for me was the scripted fight between Mjoll and Snow-shod when you drop a tomato. Even my ingenious plan to get bandits to fight each other by dropping flawless diamonds on them did not succeed.

The closest thing I had to a duel is this Redgard I met on the road. He called me a milk drinker, I said he shouldn't say that, and then a fight ensued, and I slaughtered him.

And then I poured myself a tall glass of milk.

omg

ur telling me none of you got the challenger rogue mage guy XD

lol I guess he only comes after super powerful mages like me *snobbish look*

Yeah, he challenged me, then pushed the issue when I declined, then spent his last moments whining because I was beating him down with a mace instead of magic.

I got called a Milk drinker once, > Khajiit < So I replied "No arguments here!" Then told them to be on their way!

I have been challenged by a few mages so there is that. I'm not sure if there are any warrior-type characters who challenge you though.

Before Skyrim came out I recall one of the features of the much talked about Radiant engine was the NPCs' ability to interact with the PC. Like they would pick up items you dropped, comment on your skills etc., and also challenge you to duels. I've heard the guards comment on my skills (incorrectly mostly), but since I haven't dropped valuable loot I've never seen anyone pick it up, but I also have never been challenged to a duel by any NPCs.

Was this feature left out, or have I just in my 200 hours of game time been unlucky and never had a challenge? Anyone else tried this?

If you join the College of Winterhold, at one point in time, you can become challenged to a duel by a mage that is not part of the College itself. I got challenges in the "City" of Winterhold and in Whiterun. Tough and agile guy.
