You have been challenged to a duel!

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:04 am

Before Skyrim came out I recall one of the features of the much talked about Radiant engine was the NPCs' ability to interact with the PC. Like they would pick up items you dropped, comment on your skills etc., and also challenge you to duels. I've heard the guards comment on my skills (incorrectly mostly), but since I haven't dropped valuable loot I've never seen anyone pick it up, but I also have never been challenged to a duel by any NPCs.

Was this feature left out, or have I just in my 200 hours of game time been unlucky and never had a challenge? Anyone else tried this?

I guess thugs and assassins are kind of duel-ish?

Well, there's a fine line between duels and assaults, and I'd say assassins and thugs sort in the latter =)

Oh ok, I did not know that since I don't really use magic.

I reckon bar brawls might count as duels for the fighter type characters then.

You got one NPC asking for a barbrawl and there several other brawls you can initiate yourself. I guess that first one is in a way a duel ;)

I would think the followers that you have to fight bare handed would count as duels.

I droped some armor on the floor of my house in Solitude by accident and the house carl walked into the basemant and asked if I was just going to throw that away could she have it.

The other day I was practicing telekinesis on a potion of restore magicka. This was in Riften. When the potion fell, an NPC asked if she could take it. Another NPC said he saw it first, and *those* two NPCs started fighting each other. I wasn't expecting that to happen. I ended up casting Calm and all seemed well.

If playing as an Orc, you can slug it out with the Chiefs of the different Orc strongholds.

I think the drunken brawls are the duels they were speaking of. i've been challenged in solitude, whiterun and markarth before.

in regards to dropping valuable items. last night I dropped 3 flawless amethysts inside the bee and barb because a quest i wanted to initiate wouldn't work right while holding them. Right after dropping Talen-Jei piped up with a cheeky comment about me being too rich (can't remember what he said exactly but i laughed). i picked them up right after initiating the quest though so i dunno if anyone would have picked them up, but i suspect someone would have... will have to test it out haha.

I have had housecarls and followers ask if they can take something that i've dropped, though this usually happens within one of my houses. usually a weapon or armor.

I picked up a plate by accident in Breezehome. When I exited, I dropped it and a little girl gave it back to me.

How about those guys and gals on the road who insult you and attack if you stand up for yourself.

The closest I've seen to formal duels is the mages who challenge you.

I remember when I was just doing the winterhold college quests early in my first build. So, my magic svcked and I got two shorted constantly by a Mage in Whiterun. In the end, Lydia just was whackin him with a sword while I was too.

Fair fight I say.

Aside from unarmed brawls, never had any duels. Havent been to the college in a while.

I've gotten all sorts of reactions from people when I drop things. Fights to the death (even over something as cheap as a piece of iron ore). People handing me things saying I dropped it. And sometimes they ignore it, then I start to pick my things up and people will say things like "Wow, you just found that laying around? Must be your lucky day."

I picked up an ox head from Sovngarde, then put it on the mantle in my kitchen. Ysolda took it down and gave it back to me, telling me I dropped it. :stare:

Drop something in the way of npc's that are working like belethors labourer and he'll ask if he could have it or try and give it back or a gaurd will berate you about littering,or try and tell you off for using shouts in the cities.

I've been challenged to duels with my mage, and have gotten into a few brawls on my warrior. I've even dropped items and had them given back to me, but I've never been able to instigate a brawl over an item I've dropped...believe me, I've tried several times, it hasn't worked yet.
