Cavalry

I am dying for a game where you can fight as cavalry, instead of mounted infantry. I'm sure there are some but at this level I had hoped for it.

Try Mount and Blade : Warband.

Awesome combat system (direction attacking and blocking) and full horse combat. Very good game (1000 hours + here :P), and pretty cheap ( $30 in Australia on Steam) but it's got a steep-ish learning curve and not the prettiest graphics out. Try the demo at least :)

No mod for mounted combat yet...I'm not even sure it could be done...but, just have to wait and see.

Edit: And yes, I second M&B Warband, or the Fire and Steel version (rennaisance eastern europe). Cav battles are fun...

You might be waiting forever. They may not release it.

Then I'd recommend you try playing it. In Total War you're in control of large units. In Mount and Blade you control one character, in first or third person views. Kind of like Skyrim, so fighting is much more personal. And you're fighting battles with up to 250 troops at a time. With mixed units. It's a great game.

Mount and Blade is wonderful. I`m still hankering to get back to it. Sure the graphics isn`t as good, but so what? It`s still easily good enough and quality of gameplay beats graphics every time. These guys are small and don`t have the manpower for eyebleedin` graphics.

Anyway, the horse combat is the best- Easy to get into, yet it somehow makes all the complex stuff work. You can fight with just about every weapon off horseback and the horses also act very realistically. Getting into a charge and just battering through a crowd of men is glorious! I even like it when someone manages to bring my horse down with a halberd and I go sprawling all over the ground!

This game came out about the same time as Oblivion, but has been expanded with a musket pack now.

I still can`t understand how Bethesda never implemented horse combat (in fact the whole horse thing in Skyrim is terrible) and then showed us what they could do in the `jam`. I mean why show us that they can possibly do horse combat, but then not do it? They just want us to watch what might have been?

Because I don`t like watching what might have been.

I'm going to have a look at Mount and Blade, sounds worth buying. In the meantime I've been using a mod that allows for mounted followers, in the hope of something better to come.
