Bring back the Dwemer!

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:18 pm

Hi all.

Now I'll start by saying I am hardly an expert on TES lore, so this may not exactly be a good fit (Or even correct, lol). I am not even that far into Skrym yet. Also I hardly ever post on forums so I hope everything is ok.

It's just I'm not exactly keen on the Dwemer coming back and the Dunmer staying as they are. After all they kind of got screwed on the deal too.

I'm well aware the Chimer and Dwemer have been well covered in Morrowind, but I think there is scope for an expension / DLC here.

Maybe there could be a Dunmer cult who, thoroughly sick of their lot, decide to bring the Dwemer back. By achieving this they believe that they will return to former glories as Chimer. They could discover some ancient Dwemer technology that makes it possible. Maybe down in an undiscovered section of Blackreach, or such. Then they go about making it so. So in steps the player, Undertaking an epic quest to stop them! (Or help them if Bethesda realy do plan to bring the Dwemer back for good.)

Would also be a good excuse to revisit the now destroyed Morrowind. :-)

Edit: That's better. It's readable now, lol.

Dwemer should stay in the past.

[This doesn't necessarily make them off-limits. ;)]

The return of the Dwemer would fulfill one of my long-lasting wishes of the series.

If the Dwemer return, it would kill the mystery!

Morrowind, the last TES with any real depth, explained what happened to the Dwemer.
They are not coming back as they cannot come back.
They became part of Numidium.

Doesn't Falion, the wizard in Morthal, say that he's seen them in the Outer Realms?

They're probably coming back.

Dwemer should stay in the past.

Who says they have to come to the present?
Spoiler
after all, there are a few instances of time travel in skyrim,
why not travel back in time to do quests for the dwemer?

i agree the mystery of there dissaperance is quite intriguing but i believe the mystery has gone long enough its high time the dwemer make an appearance and reclaim there crumbling empire before its too late but i doubt they will be to pleased with all the looters.

Oblivion and Skyrim Dwarven armor is made from existing scrap, but if I recall correctly, the Dwarven armor from Morrowind was what the Dwemer wore themselves (correct me if I'm wrong).
Other way around, I think.

Anyhow, the disappearance of the Dwemer is no longer a mystery. We know basically what happened.

The Dwemer themselves are a mystery, however. As the most alien race ever to walk Tamriel, including them in a game would be a terrible thing to do.

But there's no danger of them coming back. They turned into ash, their souls turned into metal, and then that metal turned into vapor and scrap in eight different universes.

I would like for the Dwemer to make an apperance as,
1. Yagrum Clones who are Dwemer, but have a great distrust of meddling with the Earth Bones.
2. A scholar who gets out of service to Hermaeus Mora and tells the player exactly what Kagrenac did wrong, but it is irreversible.
3. An Animicula who basically does the same thing as the scholar in #2

If the Dwemer come back, I'd love to see their first interaction with the Falmer after a few thousand years.

I repeat this often.

The lore about them disappearing is very deep and complex, bringing them back would be as if Bethesda just did a big 'screw you' to all the established lore from older games.

They unmade themselves in an attempt to gain godhood.....you cannot just 'make' yourself again after unmaking yourself. They are gone, and it is better and way more interesting that way.

Well.. The end of the mystery was left open. We know how they went, but not where. It's said in the game that they're in the Outer Realms. It is also said that they were banished by the daedra. As with Arniel Gane, he disappeared after performing Keening.

Their return has been left open, I suppose.

this is one of the fuzzy areas of TES, yes it does say in some instances that dwarven armor is made from their scrap metal, and in skyrim you can do it. but you also find dwarven armor and weapons in dwemer ruins, and some of the in game books depict the dwarves using heavy armor.

I'm sure that people / mer / beastfolk intrigued enough by Dwemer ruins to an entent that they risk their life to venture into one, I'm sure many of these may also greatly value a full set of armor made from Dwemer parts. I'm sure many don't make it out alive. That would explain the armor being there.

The artwork of the Dwemer and also the Dwemer ghosts in Morrowind show them in fine clothes and with minimal armor pieces.

It is a part of Redguard / Hammerfell lore to venture and brave into Dwemer ruins if they are to take a path with the military. Also Redguards prize Dwemer artefacts (I'm guessing due to Hammerfell being massively Dwemer). Maybe it was a few Redguards venturing over to Morrowind on some adventure type holiday.

They're gone, dead or not, and should stay that way.

Even if they where brought back, the best of them would be incredibly weakened. The tonal architecs in Morrowind used the heart of Lorkhan to power their works. We do know the group in Hammerfell broke off but was still lost to whatever Kagrenac did at Red Mountain.

Or so we assume. That could be open to a story where they were aware of the danger. They could have made a plan to evade it, perhaps pulling themselves out of time. So you set it up with some mages organized in a couple of dwemer ruins trying to trigger, or accidentally finding, a means of recovering those dwemer from their safety net. Then you might have a way of having some dwemer, but not bringing them back.

That's just how I think it could be. Have a few cut scenes, maybe the breif appearance of one or more powerful dwemer. Then send them back never to reappear again. You could do this in Blackreach, but I don't know if that group had any reason not to follow along with the plans of the tonal architects at Red Mountain. We just know they where too far from the heart and used the geothermal hot springs for power and falmer slaves as labor. Perhaps if we fell back into their time, but I can't come up with a good way of doing it in as a quest.

If Beth do a "travel-back-in-time-to-battle-Dwemer" DLC I will not be amused, that is such a cop out!
