A-propos the fella suggesting small giants... perhaps a few neanderthals might not be out of the question. A primitive sub-species would be beastly enough, whilst avoiding any taint of excess furriness.

Given recent archeological finds though, they'd probably just spend all their time trying on makeup and jewelry, or conducting funerals.

I don't care about werewolves, I'd love to see a canine race. More humanoid than werewolves.

A lemur race...

Some sort of spider bosmer hybrid race since they both have those eerie spiderlike eyes. It could also jive well with the bosmer's cannabalism trait of eating their dead.
