Isn't it evil to be collecting souls?

"Isn't it evil to be collecting souls?"

So what.
Unless you've somehow managed to be extraordinarily persuasive you'll have spent the game tearing the face off of every bandit, wolf, bear, necromancer, hag, spider, spriggan, etc etc that you come across or that comes across you.
I hardly think stealing the odd soul should prove that much of a problem...!

Killing and soul eating are two different crimes.
Either way i know i can morally live with killing the evil dragons but the not so evil Dragons like Parthanax and that other guy i could not possibly kill because even if they deserve death i wont bring myself (at least not on my good guy characters) to kill them.

I reserve soul trapping with Black Soul Gems for the people who really offend me in questlines. These gems I don't use, because I think they are either released/destroyed when the soul gem is used. So I keep them, and let them stay in that purgatory forever.

My character doesn't feel bad at all about absorbing dragon souls after defeating one. The soul provides her with new knowledge and power, and makes her understand herself a little bit more. She's slowly beginning to identify more and more with dragons, and always looks forward to the challenge as a way of proving her own strength.

It might be evil if you were on earth but you're on Nirn, a land of magic and fantasy and the rules are all different. Things are looked at differently on Nirn. :tes:

Absolutely this

The dragons are evil when you think about it, they tried to enslave all the races, stealing their souls is just a gift from Akatosh

what do you know about the nature of the dragons? the n-word is not 'racist.' people are racist. the dragons might be doing what is natural.

too bad if you don't like their ability or power.

I view collecting the souls of any non-sentient being to just be a way of saying that you're absorbing some life force, and it's not evil.

However sentient beings (like humans) are more questionable. And dragons fall into the sentient category I think.

That said it's not really clear what exactly you are absorbing. It's called a "soul" but it might be some other kind of entity. Also you really can't stop absorbing spells. When you kill a dragon (out of self defense) there is no way to not absorb the "soul". So it doesn't seem evil to me; not like capturing a human or elf soul in a black soul gem.

Maybe not evil by their own standards, but evil in effect, and maybe a touch cowardly despite their power, when some of them stubbornly refuse to attack the Elf casting the thunderbolts at them so they can indulge in a spot of helpless farmer barbecue. And that's without considering the history.

svcking away a person's lifeforce might, however, be a bit... evil?

Yes but in the people of Tamriel's eyes the dragons are evil, I understand what you are saying, but really the dragons are not mindless beasts. They are a civilized race obviously looking for dominance.

Plus aren't like all Dragons evil? Would you feel bad if you absorbed Hitler's soul?

dragons are not all one giant hive-mind of evil, each dragon thinks differently and there is plenty of good ones...somewhere...just not in skyrim...they are not helping their argument much

White souls are just mindless lifeforce. Do you feel bad about eating a steak? White souls are prime rib steaks, on an energetic level.

Black souls are a whole different story. If Azura would stop her own artifact from harvesting them, there's something to it, because even the "kindest" daedra don't really give a damn. By the way, you used to be able to harvest sentient souls into Azura's Star, back in the previous era. who knows? Maybe she learned something over the last few hundred years.

And the dragon souls are yet another different matter. The Dovah are an elemental force of sorts, they exist to destroy and enslave everything beneath them (with rare exceptions). In a way they are worse than the daedra, because in order for the daedra to influence Mundus, they generally have to be invited in. The Dovah are just as indestructible as the daedra (absent Dovahkiin of course), AND they are a part of Mundus, free to wreak their havoc whenever they damn well please. The Dragonborn is just a way of checks and balances...

My good natured warrior finds it humorous to capture the souls of enemies and use them against other enemies.

Here is another question.. Isn't it wrong letting dragons live? They massacre everybody...!

So this is the scale: DRAGONS OR Townsfolk

Well ... it would be different if you could help it. You can't. Being the Dragonborn is not all ham and plaques. When dragons come near you, their souls jump out of their bodies and get svcked into you whether you like it or not. There's no moral decision involved.
