Ebony Mail needs to be fixed

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:38 am

Ebony mail is my favorite armor in the game, so I can tell you that it can be quite annoying not being able to see what you're shooting. What I find worse is when you get into a brawl and your armor's security system goes off giving you a bounty.

I think the Ebony Mail is designed for warriors who sometimes get scared and want to hide

O_o You're onto me.

Ebony mail should have been more of a light chain mail. It looks more like light plate.

Are you critising the spelling? Armour is correct also. Not everyone lives in America...
I live in the US. I just spell it like that for some reason, lol. I remember when I was in High School my teachers always used to tell me I was spelling things wrong. Armour, colour, ect. I don't even notice it, thats just the way I spell it ^__^

There is no chainmail in skyrim only armour.

New to the series? I'd love to hear your rationale behind that assumption.

I find it funny when people like you play the game and think heavy armour should in any way be useful for sneaking.

I havent got a problem with people wanting to wear whatever they want, with whatever build they favour, i just believe there should be penalties attached to doing so.
Why do you care about having penalties attached? This is a single player game.

Whats that got to do with anything?

As a player i enjoy choice. At the same time i want those choices to mean something. If i play as a mage i want the choice of wearing heavy armour if i wish but i also want to be penalised for doing so.I just find it more interesting to spend a bit of time weighing up my options and deciding upon a course of action. If i'm free to make choices that don't really amount to anything then those choices are not really choices at all.

OT: If there is a quest item for a heavy armour piece designed for stealthy characters then great it should work as intended.I think it's a daft idea and a cheap way to circumvent what should be an important game mechanic but i agree it should work.

It's called mail because if you look closely at the areas around the shoulder (where the pauldrons are on the ebony armour) there are small patches of dark chainmail. Unfortunately, like you said the chainmail of the past elder scrolls games has not made it into this one for some reason. :(

If they had real chainmail in previous games why in the name of sanity have they left it out of Skyrim ?. I would love some chainmail a shield and a short spear to stab people in the face with.

You do have choice. You can choose not to wear it if it doesn't meet your standards.

exactly. its a great piece of sneaking gear that doesnt work well for sneaking.
It works very well, even better than light armor as no other chest piece can have this muffle effect.

Never used it apart from the first minute or so, after which I realised the visual effect persisted and I took it off forever.

This is not a good way to replace small and unobstrusive active effects in the top right corner of the screen, Bethesda.
