Roleplaying couldn't be easier. Basically, you specialise. If you're playing a mage, don't use weapons or maybe just dual daggers for close range. If you're playing an archer, bows are your primary weapon, and switch to either sword and board or dual weild 1h weapons. These are just examples, btw. Give your character a backstory. How did they come to be in Skyrim? Why do they stay? What are they going to do while they're there? Where will they base themselves out of?
On my second playthrough, I played through Helgen as a formality. In his story, he avoided arrest and was in Riverwood by the time Alduin attacked. Once Hadvar (I chose Imperials) got to Riverwood, I chose that as the start of my characters story. He alerted the Jarl of Whiterun then immediately made his way to Solitude to join the Imperials, which is why he came to Skyrim. During his time with them, he developed Gigantasophiba after being chased by a giant from Dawnstar to Whiterun, so now he avoids them at all costs, even though he longs to hunt the Mammoths. Hunting is his hobby and he is also a blacksmith on the side (no grinding)
I hope that helps
