No enchanting?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:14 pm

So I'm going for a pretty wonky build here (yeah, wonky), and I feel I might need to sacrifice enchanting to do so. When I think about it, I'll probably end up with DB armor and mehrune's razor and I'm using a bound bow, so i probably won't need it anyway.

However, all of my previous characters utilized enchanting and I'm kind of scared that I won't do well without it.

Does anybody do just fine without enchanting?

I created a build of my main character with Enchanting, and got bored of it around lvl 35. Now, I'm playing without it, and it's still lots of fun.

So yes, I'm fine without Enchanting.

I don't use enchanting but I do use the items I find with enchantments already installed. I still hoard soul gems just in case just like i hoard ingredients but don't use alchemy.

I always start enchanting and then get bored with it. To me, it's more fun to just find enchanted items. You'd be ok without it, HOWEVER, I play on Expert, so if you are playing Master, that might be a different story.

Griselda still enchants the odd thing or 2, she just hasn't put any perks into it
You have to put 8+ perks into it and some into alchemy too for the stuff you make to beat the best you can find
Thats pretty limiting. Most characters I'd rather use the perks for something else

I have a traditional nord who eschews enchanting or usage of any enchanted items all together and he does pretty well for himself.

I play Dead-is-Dead on Master, so Enchanting of some sort is pretty much mandatory. I often limit Fortify enchantments in order to keep my damage values from getting excessive, although when I use Bound weapons I have more leeway, since they can't be smithed.

Not trying to boast here or anything, but I made it to level 34 with a dead-is-dead character without enchanting or alchemy. (master difficulty, deadly dragons mod installed, potions heal over time instead of instantly-mod installed). No problems until that damn one-hit KO archer in the tomb of ysgramor killed him.

The problem with enchanting right now is that its so absurdly easy to get to about 50 in enchanting and when you stick a soul trap enchantment on a weapon, you can easily hit 100 in the early to mid 20s with only 8 perks spent.

I didn't use enchanting on my first character. Seemed to work just fine. (Of course, there were points where I really needed to find some appropriate resist gear, but I managed. Eventually I had items with 50% fire and frost resist, and the elemental block perk. That, plus resist potions, was enough to manage against dragons and mages. With some care.)

...well, I did disenchant stuff, in case I'd ever use the skill. And I did stick Soul Trap on several weapons so I could charge gems. But without perks put into the skill, nothing else I could make was remotely useful, even with Grand gems.

I've never tried Enchanting. I only did it once for that Trophy and reloaded haha.

Maybe one day I might.

If that's true, you're free to boast all what you want  Me, even with an overpowered Shrink enemies spell, that basically leaves them defenseless, I've died tons of times on Master... :( (currently lvl 36).

Maybe is the approach of my character, who loves to teleport behind an enemy and crush him. It's a high risk-high reward tactic, but leaves him pretty exposed. Kinda like Vanguards' Biotic Charge power in Mass Effect 2/3.

i made a mage w/o enchanting.... i suppose he would have been fine if i hadn't leveled alchemy like a drug addict. in any case i think the unique items are better than enchanted ones and more fun/immersive. i completely perked enchanting on my warrior, daedric armor and warhammer. is it sweet? yes. is it fun? i immediately started a new character.

I'm 100 hours into the game and my character is still running around in almost completely unenchanted equipment, and his smithing is only level 65. Only a couple of his weapons and jewelry bear magic, and he gets by just fine on expert.
