This definitely puts complaints about Steam into perspective. I plan on getting Skyrim for PC eventually, and I sure hope I won't have to deal with that crap by then.

It's not society, just the internet. But this forums is more civil than the BF3 one at least. I have never read the phrase "butthurt" so much in my life. If there was some way to reform how people acted on the internet, that would be great. But when people can hide behind a screen they will say anything that they want to.

You, should come to Newfoundland, that gravel road/highway called the Alcan highway would be smooth as a babies bottom compared to some of the paved roads here. There be pot holes big enough to swallow your car, and you be surprised how many fall victim to em as well, not to mention the chance of being eaten by a polar bear when in Labrador when you fall in one there is a reason Inuit are as crazy as they are, you don't mess around LOL ( I'm kidding, before any feathers are ruffled )

The amazing thrills from play an elder scrolls game should override 5 mins of steam problems. And just cause your skyrim isnt good in your opinion, doesnt mean that bethesda svcks.

I spend 10 minutes a week worrying about Steam. I spend a lot more time than that in a week loving Bethesda games.

If, say, the Catholic church decided to torture people for one reason or another, if say they had a reason to at all, then would you, if you were a Catholic, remove yourself from all affiliation with the church? What if most Catholics decided it was an okay thing to torture other people, then would you think the same?

(Nothing against any particular church here, I'm just using this as an example.)

Thankfully you decided to log on and tell us all that you, a loyal fan and all, are quitting! If I were to abandon a game the first thing that always pops into my head is to go to the forums and let all of the eagerly waiting people know that I'm just fed up (usually because they care).

Not that I agree with Steam, but how exactly is Steam being needed to play "squeezing every dollar out of this game"?? Steam costs you no money...

They chose Steam they do not need steam piracy is not an issue as much as many publishers go on about it. Certainly is not PC exclusive issue either. It is a issue when your game is crap and your selling a game more then what is worth and with Skyrim's release quality they certainly had no choice because if people found out Skyrim CTD every hour on hour piracy sounds great because of its poor quality not just Skyrim I might add it's not exactly a clean reputation BGS quality games have always been poor in terms of optimization especially at release.

Steam however is a 3rd party Valve is more then happy to let their competitors Bethesda, Activision, EA, Etc to pay them for every copy sold. Even though steam has very intrusive DRM method it beats the alternatives like the one we had for FO3 being Windows Live.


As for you, I can't take you seriously if you had PS3 I may but you have Xbox and because MS charges you to pay for content you already bought being MP for any game and their games are not being sold at lower price to compensate the difference your supporting exactly what you go against that Steam does.

So in my book if your hypocrite take that as you will. Even if you do not pay for the gold you are still very much supporting Microsoft in general if you buy a game with such service forced upon their consumers.

Bought the disk then found a way to avoid using Steam on the net with a patch. I know it's officially called a crack but if it helps me get rid of Steam, I'm all for it.

Really, I would have thought that games manufacturers would have realised by now that their attempts at anti-piracy are just making the pirated copies all the more enticing. If people have to have internet and jump through a load of hoops and download garbage bloatware they don't want just to play a game, guess where they are going to go to get the game instead? It all amounts to lost revenue. Cracking down on file sharing won't help either, there are so many other ways that people can get the illegal copies from the net.

It's quite easy to reduce piracy by being nice to your customers.
* Reduce costly anti piracy measures that are often cracked within a day or two of the game being released. That reduces costs and allow you to reduce the price.
* None of this third party stuff like Steam which installs software that people don't want/need to play the game.
* No internet registrations that mean people without internet get screwed over. Not EVERYONE has internet you know.

Put the above into action and see more money, more happy customers and more customers coming to you in future to buy games.

Remember, sell a game at 50 bucks and 100 people will buy it and 200 will pirate it. Sell it at 35 bucks and 200 people will buy it and 100 will pirate it, that's a 40% increase in revenue overall just by reducing the price. You'll never stop ALL the pirates but you will gain a lot more loyal customers.
