Inventory ... retardedness

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:45 am

Well, I just read through here looking for any sign of an "I love the interface and inventory system, don't change a thing!" post... but so far no sign of one. Glad to see everyone pretty much agrees on my primary complaint about Skyrim- godawful user interface. Hope Beth is actually paying attention to all this good feedback and will do something to fix it.

They said they were working on a PC interface. Apparently that project fell in a hole during production

Somewhere in the SkyUI release topic is a rather rightly critical image someone posted, taking grievance with all the bad UI design transgressions committed by the vanilla setup.

EDIT Aha, here it is: http://www.abload.de/img/skyriminterface0k8ej.jpg

I have seen this image before. I wish it would be the background for the forums or something.
It sums up pretty much all of the less intelligent points about the interface.

I love this system. Then again, I keep a very, very limited inventory for RP purposes.

May want to look at these three mods for yourself:

Container Categorization (SKSE): http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1227

Better Sorting: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2730

QD Inventory: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=667
That should be better. Great mods for something Bethesda missed out.

I have the smithing room mod for Solitude and I often store ingots and other smithing bits in the chest there. Because I often have so many items, especially soul gems in my inventory, I store a load of ingots and then go upstairs to store jewelry and some flawless gems etc in the safe. Then I find I've missed an ingot or two and have to go back to the basemant again to store them.

They're aiming for an 11/11/11 release date! (11/11/2111)

i think it inadequately addresses the handling of inputs though. the interface (on consoles) relies on only the primary buttons too much. At least in OB/FO you could quickly cycle things with the triggers. there are so many wasteful, repetitive presses to navigate these menus I can't imagine anyone with a background in interface design had a hand in it.

What do you like about it?
you sir, have been trolled.
