Druid! Need advice on a build

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 8:27 pm

Okay title says it all. I want to create a new character, would like to attempt a Druid / Shammon, just struggling with a viable build.

I'd like to wear and use forsworn armour and weapons (could be an issue late game due to DPS). Think they are most fitting from a RP perspective.

Anyone played a Druid before? Advice on builds pls? :)

How about a Night Elf druid build? Using illusion, conjuration ( necromancy ) restoration, one handed, enchanting, maybe some destruction, alteration? Never actually played as it,but I found it on WOW WIKI site some time ago.Hope this helps

Yeah was hoping to get a forsworn staff, looks very rustic.

Yeah I was debating conjuration or destruction... Was edging towards destruction for range attacks, and for the cloaks (figured it would look very study to be swirling with fire etcetra).

While Bosmer seem the most 'in tune' with nature types, I think a Breton would work best. Especially since the Forsworn are an off shoot of the Bretons and you could then play a Forsworn that rejects the Hagraven ways and decides to follow a more pure nature path.

For a true druid I'd go Orc (for looks + berserker) or Breton (for lore reasons, as well as racials). Possibly Bosmer for the animal charm racial.

One-handed
Light Armor
Illusion
Destruction
Alchemy

A case could be made for using Alteration as well; it depends on how many skills you want to work up.

Conjuration doesn't seem very druidy to me, unless you wanted to use the Familiar (which gets pretty weak as you level up) or Exploding Familiar (haven't used it yet, but I assume it has similar issues). If you wanted to go for more of a creepy shaman type, take Conjuration for the raise undead spells.

Use Forsworn weapons and armor and don't worry too much about the DPS. With a good skill you should be fine.

I'd use Illusion for Fear and Frenzy spells vs. humans, and Calm spells vs. animals.

I'd use Destruction for ranged spells, as you say. For this skill to remain effective, you're going to have to use it a lot and invest in the perks - or you can just use it to finish off people after your Frenzy spells have worn off, but before they get in range of your weapons. I like the idea of focusing on frost spells for this kind of build, but you could really get them all perked out. Cloaks are a good idea, but they cost a lot of magicka. Use Runes as traps.

Healing and poisons and all your other defenses vs. magic, etc., will come from Alchemy.

You could actually drop One-handed altogether and be just fine, using your spells and staves. The damage of spells from staves is actually dependent on your perks in the Destruction school, so keep that in mind. Of course, recharging staves will work up your Enchant skill as well.

The hard thing about this kind of character would be the RP, I'd think. What are you going to do for quests? Who are you going to talk to? It would get boring just wandering around in the wilderness, never having any real purpose, I would think.

Maybe the Main Quest would be a decent 'long term' goal. None of the factions would make sense, but the MQ gets you out in the world, and you get Shouts. Shouts are a great complement to this build, and some of them are very druidy.

Appreciate your detailed response, you've made some great points. I like the idea of illusion, have to play with the perks calculator.

I've a RP in mind, my intention is to be an Argonian, not much is known about there society but since they are tribal a Druid build could work. In fact you can be very creative, perhaps the Hist (trees) foresee a great disaster if x y z happens in Skyrim so have communicated with our hero in an attempt to divert it. I'll work on that along with my play restrictions.

Ahh, interesting concept going with Argonian, I like it. The Hist angle makes a lot of sense.

Actually played around and I've come up with

Build - one handed (8 perks), smithing (steel only), light armour (about 7 perks), destruction (no impact), alteration (extra armour and dragon hide, paralyze), restoration and three points into enchanting to help with buffing forsworn gear. Oh and Alchemey, but I'll only use it for poisons and pre fight buffs.

Should be fun, not unlike my monk build, only I won't be restricted to robes plusi don't have to be saintly.
