And the vistas! If you stood, for example, near the top of the hill near Elsweyr border, you could literally see forever. From the Skingrad areas below you, toward the great forest, than toward the imperial city, and beyond it, the distant yet grand jerall mountains. Miles and miles of forest between you and the horizon. Wonderful atmospheric haze as you gazed out further toward the mountain crest. It was truly grand and something I miss in Skyrim.

Doesn't that just make you want to make an epic trek across the landscape to reach the tops of the distant mountains in the background? And you could! And that was one of my fav things about oblivion. Making an epic journey across the land from the snowy bruma then across the vast great forest, then across endless rolling hills then finally toward the warm and inviting shores of Anvil.
THe closest we have in skyrim are the tundra plains but it does not feel nearly as grand nor wondrous as oblivion views. Making a trek across the land from solitude to riften, for example, just doesn't feel as epic. You cross some barren icy landscape, get funneled through 1-2 mountain passes (this really irks me) cross some streams and you are at the fall forest already.
