Why can't we rename our weapons with smithing?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:05 pm

"This is my sword. There are many like it, but this one is mine!" :hehe:

I svck at making up names, so i leave my enchanted items to have their default names too

I put a period in front of thier name so they stack up nicely in my favorites list. Other than that I never name my weapons but it should be available even for non enchanted weapons.

You can rename items you smith if you are a Daedric Lord, or work for Bethesda.

If you raise your smithing skill to 101 without exploits or cheats, you unlock the ability too.

One reason why I loved Oblivion. Custom weapons/armor, custom spells and custom potions. Skyrim only has one of these.

Wuuthrad has an enchantment! It is extra deadly to elves! Useful for crushing Thalmor scum!

That's not really an enchantment. It gives no visual effect like enchantments do, doesn't block Elemental Fury, and you can still enchant the axe once you get it.

That's kind of my point. Weapons can be special even without having enchantments.

Wuuthrad has no enchantments, and yet is a named weapon and artifact.
it has huge historical significance, being weilded by Ysgramor himself. that deserves a special name. a crappy iron dagger that you just made for the first time ever does not.

Fair enough, but what about the sword I used to fight Alduin? That has huge historical significance.

that would be hugely historically significant, so renaming that one would be good. if bethesda add something so that the sword you use kill Alduin is renamed to Dragonsbane, then i will try to land the killing blow with an iron dagger. lol.
